Thread regarding General Atomics layoffs

What is going on?

How is it even legal to lay off employees then turn around and post open positions? Why terminate in the first place? The years of experienced long time employees have far more value than any new hire. If GA thinks that new hires will give the same output at less pay than those let go they are in for a world of hurt!

Come on guys this is big business & very rarely do the company get challenged, (lawsuit). GA simply will change the new position title slightly & higher young gun for 25k less than the experienced worker.

My understanding of layoffs from years ago is that if you layoff a specific position, you can't rehire for that same position within 6 months of the layoff without looking suspect in the eyes of the law. So if they layoff a Tech Writer IV, there shouldn't be any postings for a Tech Writer IV for atleast the next 6 months post layoff.

New hires don’t exactly get lesser pay many were hired over this past year assigned to Bldg 21 when United Technologies (UTC) aka Rohr closed Its door in Chula Vista.

When a company cares more about dollars than employees, new labor is drastically cheaper than experienced.
