We need to get everyone back to the office to take an inventory of Human Resources. Then we can decide which resources to keep.

HR Directors and Managers are extremely overpaid at OXY. Agree..most are sitting at home with little to do, as indicated by posts of hanging out by the pool, playing with their kids, and going to the gym during work hours (not referring to their lunch hour either!)
What if people don’t have enough to do now?
The HR Function and structure at Oxy is nothing but a joke. Most of HR is sitting at home doing nothing but drawing a paycheck playing Stupid games in their occasional online meetings. They have no clue as to what is going on in the Oil business - they cant even find their managers to see what’s going on. Who is the head of Oxy HR? It’s nothing but a smoke and mirrors game at this place. BTW APCs HR was a bunch of useless overpaid cronies - so good riddance to those folks Bringing them over to Oxy would have only made matters worse as APC lost all of its best HR people years and years ago. One day an activist or shareholder will look into the Huge GA expense at Oxy and heads will eventually roll. It needs to happen soon before the whole company is in chapter 11 or more likely chapter 7 !
Look at all the down votes. Clearly another example of senior management forcing their misguided will on their employees and destroying morale by trying to make them go back to the office. BP is selling their main office in London and adopting a WFH strategy on an ongoing basis. VH and her team can't accept that model and it is clear by the overpaid 10 year lease renewal on GW5.
You will not have a choice to not come back. The US workforce needs to be back in the office.
God no one wants to go back. At least after Labor Day there will be a huge spike in cases since the airports were packed over the holiday weekend and the schools are reopening today. Sowe likely won’t be able to come back, despite the lies VH keeps pushing of “our employees want to come back”.
Quitting has no influence on safety of the 401k.
HR have no power to make decisions
They just pass on the bad news like robots
They need to grow some and speak out about the lies and deceit being practised by top management
Ask the Expats in Algeria about the lies Oxy spread to ensure nobody got VSP or CoC
Good engineers and managers quitting just to protect their 401k's
You know where its coming from. The TOP.
Oxy HR has little to no power and are about 10 to 12 years late to the technology and practice of new / innovative ideas. I mean this seriously. An example of this is that Workday was being implemented at LAPC and Oxy is running HR system that LAPC was running before they got SAP (PeopleSoft). And for God's sake, Oxy actually promoted Hawaiian shirt Fridays as a perk.
Oxy HR can't do anything to help Oxy with the current HR group. They need a major overhaul. All the true HR leaders and professionals from APC left on their own or went to WES. It took 8 offers before one mid level manager was finally kept at WES as all other APC HR managers and Directors couldn't stand working in such a backwards place and knew they could get better elsewhere.
HR snob: if you want to get back into the game of attracting good talent, be one of the first oil companies (after BP) to go long on WFH and commit to a high degree of flexibility.
We are so disappointed with the latest position coming out from HR. “People perform better when they can collaborate in person.” “We need to bring the bulk back in...”. There is no substance behind this. What data are you basing this on!?!? name some names! What departments or individuals are underperforming?? What you’re really saying is “we are afraid and we are clinging to the illusion of control.”
Without HR you wouldn't have benefits, salary perks (bonuses & increases), pto/sick time, a place to hire or fire people, protection against s-xual harassment, racism and the like. Ever legitmately complained about your coworker or boss?.. yeah HR tracks and uses that during review time.
And dont tell me... as an engineering manager, I could do that. Sure you could about as well run as you can also be your IT dept. Its not a glamorous dept but it gets stuff done that needs to happen.
Believe me if you have ever worked for a small or mid size company you realize there are things that large corporation hr peeps do not let fly at the larger places that are rampant at smaller places. And if they fly at your large corp it means HR isn't given the power to fix. A strong HR leader is not afraid to step in and call out even the highest exec.
And yes, while the dept is there to protect the company, they also have the employees in mind for every decision. Also its their responsibility to inform mgmt about the company's external profile. .. right now , Oxy is seen as a large joke that made a bad bet and is being watched closely to see if it will fail. Only the truly desperate are willing to apply at the moment.
OP
“Human Resources” is an oxymoron at any company, even more so at O&G outfits.
I use oxymoron as its dictionary definition. No disrespect to past or present Oxy employees; I spent 12 very good years at Oxy.
You’ll never go wrong if you think HR stands for Hairy Rats.
Lol. Good luck after Labor Day COVID increases.
