Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

EAP and Speak Up is for the company , not you

I know first hand an account of a former colleague who brought a credible account of corruption to Speak Up. The alleged corruption involved mgt including the TL in his or her organization, where it was apparent that employees were accepting kick backs from a certain vendor in exchange for selecting their product line. The former colleague shared the case with me personally and it was clear that the evidence was sufficient to have an investigation. The end result was, nothing was done about the alleged corruption, and that individual did not survive the next re-org which happened later that same year, despite being in a process safety sensitive role that normally would not have been laid off. These EAP and Speak Up programs are really meant to protect the company, nothing else. You tell me what’s really going on !

The good leaders, the supporters of Speak Up that want to do the right thing, don't survive and are elbowed out. And so the sincerity of the Speak Up message gets diluted, replaced by yes men/women who want to tick boxes and report their figures up to Senior Leadership to show what a good job they're doing what ever the cost.

How many people has anyone met that got a valuable outcome for bringing a concern forward? Word of mouth advertising “speak up does not work” Is not for sale when the bp actions speak loud and clear. None of those ethics and compliance programs work. They are as effective as water cooler talk.
