I've never once said anything on this site, but we are already experiencing a very difficult year. Nothing like deflating an already on edge workforce. I have loved everything about this company since day one, but this just took the wind out of my sails like I was gut punched.
You asked us to trust the moves to keep us going and you've asked us for our patience. Are you planning Mass layoff in which you don't want to pay out vacation? I can't think of any good reason to do this at this time. Please hp me understand your reasoning. You asked us to use vacation and told us we can't roll over more than 2 weeks and now you're going to make us accrue vacation. Then you say you can borrow future time and we will owe you if we leave or are let go. Seriously, don't do this to us. We've been faithful. We have worked hard. We've been positive.

Yes, it's a way to save money but I HIGHLY doubt it has anything to do w/ preparing for another layoff. They keep reiterating they everything's good for 6-7mo with our financials so....honestly, I'm not really all that concerned that they'll be another round. Besides that, if they were to do another mass exodus, who would populate the new building next summer??
Totally agree that they are doing this now to so as not to look bad if they do an end of year lay-off (how can you lay us off right before our vacation allotment is received?! - no longer a thing) -or- to prepare for a 1st quarter lay-off.
The most obvious reason for doing this would be to prepare for a first quarter layoff in 2021.
My advice - vacation in place. Nearly everyone has an iPhone. Just shut your office door, and pursue your own interests. If you do this for 3 to 6 weeks every January/February you can work productively the remainder of the year knowing that you’ve at least partially reclaimed what is rightfully yours. If you’re really motivated, you could even combine this with other posters’ suggestions to pursue additional education- shut the door and train for your next role at a competitor or in some other industry.
We are about the only company that didn’t accrue vacation, but with that said this still s—s. This is almost as bad as eliminating the free soda from the vending machines.
Throughout my tenure at Marathon, the company paid right at the median, but the benefits were great and the community feeling was also great. Now the benefits s—, and the community sentiment is not only dead, but Tillman and company have p-ss-d on the corpse. No employee should exhibit any loyalty at this point - act only in your own best interest. You can rest assured the execs are doing the same.
I guess that reduces their balance sheet for paid vacation owed.
That is what it's all about.
It s—s but not end of the world.
If you quit before December 31, you will get your full vacation. Have a good life.
I actually don't find the vacation policy change that crazy. Other places I've worked have accrued vacation and was honestly surprised that Marathon gave it all as a lump at the beginning of the year.
Echo the sentiment about building / growing skills. There's so many free courses available online and continuing to improve yourself can only help you have more & better options down the road. When was the last time we had anything in-house? On the job training is a joke. Don't leave your future entirely in the hands of Marathon.
Tillman has ruined the place. He should be ashamed. And Pat... holy bleep.
Diaper fire. Selling the rest of my stock today. Poorly run.
I am thankful to have a job and hopefully these changes help to keep the company around. Oil industry will be challenged and we need to do everything possible to be competitive. Maybe this vacation change will help. I don’t know. If you feel you have no options then increase your skills take a class get a certification so you are attractive and not so reliant on marathon. There are many hopeless people that post on this site and I ask they please stay on Zoom and teams for the rest of their career and not bring everyone in the office down to their level of despair.
Vacation policy change is a game for the income statement... MRO is a diaper fire
I was faithful and bled blue all through out my years their, being let go in April was a culture shock; not being able to find work is even more heart breaking.
I remember before the lay off in April 2020, a month prior our director, I think she is now the RVP of our area posted on our teams website, that we need to use our vacation time despite the new pandemic. Needless to say, as 2 faced as she is and still is, she steps on our lifeless bodies to lay us off. To better her back stabbing!! But I will say paperwork in April’s lay-off said the timeframe was to be in effect from April to October, the hard lesson was learned there is no faithful company to employee relationship anymore! They will use you and your skills to let you go.
I was a high ranking employee on my last review and had a few Programs based on my work so it would stream line and make the work process easier.
So believe me getting laid off was not excepted.
