Thread regarding General Atomics layoffs

New Positions Posted After Layoffs

Less than a week after laying off over 600 employees, with some of them from PLCS - Technical Publications, GA posted a new Technical Writer/Editor position last night for said department. I swear these people are id–ts.

To me this confirms many people's suspicion, they aimed at laying off its older employees with larger salaries. Keep an eye out for that because it would not be that difficult to prove.

My understanding of layoffs from years ago is that if you layoff a specific position, you can't rehire for that same position within 6 months of the layoff without looking suspect in the eyes of the law. So if they layoff a Tech Writer IV, there shouldn't be any postings for a Tech Writer IV for atleast the next 6 months post layoff.

The day after the lay-off 79 new positions were posted. Really? They couldn’t have kept some of the talent they let go. Not when you make six figures and are a few years from retirement! Age and money !

One of the selling points GA promoted at hiring was no layoffs. People are actually underpaid due to the no layoff selling point. Everyone that is underpaid today should seriously reevaluate their pay bc the no layoff benefit does not exists anymore at GA. It is definitely something that I am evaluating.

It can be proven that the majority of the terminations( lay offs mean you get your job back if they are rehiring) were over the age of 40+ more like 50+ and longer term employees!! They didn’t use COVID instead used the Air Force cutting their contract of the MQ-9 but if you read the defense newsletter dated Feb 2020 the head of the production for the MQ-9 for GA states no lay offs would be done as they could move people around to avoid this. They lied!! They didn’t want to pay experienced people, instead left it to the young cheap help that don’t even know their way around an excel spreadsheet. And yet they are hiring.. I heard that their may be a class action lawsuit due to these actions!! If you are hiring people, then you shouldn’t be laying off!!

Given all the nepotism that goes along in the departments, the best is hard to believe many where let go over some kiss A and didn't deserved to be with the company.

They did lay off all ages groups, no doubt, or else those in the protected class, 40+, would have a clear cut lawsuit. That said, they did lay off a lot of senior personnel; meaning, those with 10 to 20 years of service. The let go temp technical writers lately and then turn around and post 4 Technical Writer/Editor positions last night. Don't believe, then search on the uav.com Careers page.

This is not an HR person either. . .Have a nice day, just trying to show a possible pattern to look for. It was said that those remaining are considered "the best"–the one's that will help the company have success next year and beyond. We'll see, because I find that hard to believe at its core.

I agree that the person who wrote the first reply is a GA HR rep

I disagree with that comments as young and old were caught up on the layoff and they were different pay scales.
