So since north platte is changing operations does this mean they will be having lay offs or calling some back. Just asking for our low seniority guys at bottom. Should i be worried or be happy the article says it will not impact 1600 employees that work at Bailey. Bailey is a critical yard for UP.

I see all these layoffs going on now. Is North plate on chopping block also even tho we are so busy or should i be worried even tho i have at least 30 machinist under me? Keep your head up. I was Furloughed from NP almost exactly a year ago and things couldn't be better. Now I have 4 day work weeks no more nights or missing kids birthdays and working the holidays. Yes the insurance s—s but I'm actually bringing home more than with UP. So like I said keep your head up because there is a life outside of that s–t hole.
You work for a sh-t hole company. Nothing more is needed to be said.
You're going to start seeing bigger changes occurring at some of the larger locations. North Platte is no exception by any means. The UP OR has been slipping, train crew shortages, excessively late/annulled trains, increasing shipper complaints, and derailments have gotten the unneeded attention from government officials. The UP still hasn't responded to the letter sent to them addressing these issues. I wish I could say something more positive, but you need to read the writing on the wall. They said they don't expect it to affect people, when in fact it will. If people start getting let go, then the UP will have that letter that said they didn't expect to affect anyone. It's just a softer way of saying layoffs are coming, and help avoid litigation from other parties saying they weren't given notice. I just don't understand why people are still holding onto hope, and somehow trusting the UP. Good luck to you all.
You North Platte boys have your heads up your a–. You might be the only location that has not suffered large changes and furloughs, buts it’s about to hit you like a ton of bricks. Life as you know it with UP is about to change forever, and just like everywhere else, once the jobs get cut they never come back. I work in a yard that has a hump just sitting there while we flat switch and swing rails all over the yard, it s—s. I have 14 years and I only have 2-3 under me on the yard extraboard. It will be years before I will be able to hold a regular job again. The last 5 years my seniority has only gotten worse. Make preparations now, don’t wait because there will be a lot of people fighting over the small amount of jobs that NP has to offer over the railroad. I would recommend working for yourself, and not for someone else, especially a giant soulless, money grubbing corporation.
When management says no impact on employees, you can bet your freckled aaasss 1/3 of your total roster will be furloughed, abolishments on the horizon!
With half of North Platte being shutdown I'd expect layoffs. Half the yard half the work. I'd guess every craft can expect layoffs in NP
They just shut down the east hump. They wouldn’t do that if things were good. Another western railroad is taking our business and we are playing it off as if it’s all good because the operating ratio is down. Whatever works for the shareholders I guess.
