I think when it is all said and done we are going to look back and see how Covid was used politically. At this point there has been 180K plus that have died, but of those many had a comorbidity. The flu we get every year also k–ls a lot of people with a comorbidity, so who knows really had bad this is. If we track the normal flu like this people would be scared as well. It worked well because I am scared, and I wear a mask everywhere now, but I do think we are seeing so much in regards to politics and media overblowing things that we have all just scared. I do like working from home, but not just not just because of Covid. I just think some of us can do a great job at home as well as in the office, and there are cost we can decrease by being home.

Corporations don’t need to treat people right to attract talent. The only requirements are to pay well, have competitive benefits, and supply great equipment and projects to work on. The people will come.

Even the young people are driven by money. The only ones who are not are the ones with useless degrees so they might as well try to make the world a better place.

@ time,

I am the poster below and I am in my 40s and have multiple kids. I never once mentioned lower wages in lieu of anything. I just stated that employees are looking for employers that care more than just the bottom line but also improving the world better than they found it. To attract talent they will need to treat people right.

What if they send people back on the basis of their intelligence as measured by degree level and type and perhaps IQ. Then send only those meeting the intelligence hurdle back to the office. The rest can just work from home and wait to perhaps get called back. I am pretty sure there is a correlation between intelligence and chance of having the virus. The smarter people just seem to avoid the virus.

I think your right on boomer, and probably right on male. To be fair, I'm not sure how skin color, Covid 19, or working from the office apply here. Is this about older people being more conservative generally then younger people? Just asking.

And the comment immediately below this is clearly some white male boomer that thinks coronavirus is fake and that we need to get back to the office to do our jobs. Lol #weareoxy

The reply below is typical of the millennial worker who thinks that his or her generation have finally figured it out. Maybe you will accept a lower salary now to work for your socially conscious employer. But just wait until you have 2 or 3 kids and the cost that go along with raising a family. The light bulb will go off in your head, and you will have different priorities other than saving the polar bear are making sure the lizards have enough to eat in Southern California

There are huge reforms going on in the big corporate world and covid is just the highlighting the surface. Havent you seen or heard of the efforts of all major corps going after the new enlightened worker who is also looking for the company to make a social or evironmental impact along with a large bottom line. This isn't a 2020 thing or young thing, its been going on for 10+ years. Look at a company like Salesforce (nyse: CRM) they donate 10% of their product/service to nonprofits. Of course thats one example but there are tons of other examples.

The reality is that running a company the same now as it has been for the previous 10, 20 , 50 or even a 100 years is the most ludicrous thing to do especially if the rest of the world is changing around you. Adapt or go extinct. You are still thinking like someone who believes they need a landlines for a home phone. But just look at how many commercials are tooting the best long distance lines vs the cell phone commercials citing best coverage. One is fading and going extinct. However, you are also likley one of those that are still using dialup internet too.

Just face it you are the one reminiscing about the good old days of whiskey at lunch and secretaries with short skirts and big chests. Get over your self and remember that you are the one who needs to remember the heart medication and worry about Medicare and retirement while most of us are now worrying about how this company will survive this s-show that we call Executive Leadership.

@1obx+16K7wMjN - If the “big corporate picture” is leading a century old company into bankruptcy, it’s quite clear we’re better off not knowing.

You little people in the organization don’t understand the big corporate picture. That’s why you are not a manager or executive.

All my teammates (who report to the same manager as I do) prefer to working from home. If that's generally true for other teams, it has to be the management who wants people to go back. I personally feel that I am more productive working from home. But I guess the managers feel that they lose controls and cannot get their job ("managing" people) done from home.

Managers need to be more flexible with people who have dogs too.

Heard an email went out stating that managers need to be more flexible (change work hours, WFH, etc) for those who have children. Guess those without kids at home, possibly taking care of elderly parents are out of luck. Ummm...discriminate much??

God the fact that VH would even go on a podcast with DRW shows how big of a joke she and in turn OXY are. She thinks she is “hip” by going on his podcast. The guy seriously s—s. Not to mention he is a huge hypocrite when it comes to what the industry “needs to do” To rebalance supply and demand and what he expects from his boosters aka VH.

Who makes 200k a year? I’m in land try less than half of that. And we had a 30% cut for several months so get off your high horse and stop acting like we haven’t paid a price too.

Y’all need to think about all of the good people who are unemployed and facing eviction. You think you have problems with making 200k+ per year sitting in your nice big air conditioned homes with a BMW and a Lexus in your driveway. Maybe a Mercedes . You don’t really have problems.

Given the level of disgraceful employee who wants to work for Oxy to begin with, all valuable employees don't have that choice to go back to the office or quit to begin with.

Because none of them work for Oxy.

You all have a choice. Just quit when they call you back. That will really show them who is boss.

VH the spin artist. I’ve talked to 30+ of my colleagues. We all agree that we can do our job effectively from home and we DO NOT want or need to go back to the office. Covid outbreak will happen in less than 2 weeks guaranteed. I actually can’t think of anyone that wants to go back. Even though VH claims “we need to get back to the office”.

Has anyone seen or heard anything about changes at Greenway that are being made to minimize COVID risks?

Whats the over/under until a covid outbreak? I put it within three weeks of returning to the office, whenever that is.

I am very thankful we are not being rushed back to the office with an email from VG. This more moderate and cautious approach certainly works well for boosting employee morale and retention, especially after VSPs, layoffs and the less glorious voluntary resignation letter. Full credit to VH.

The policy must be extended to all in the same way. You cannot have individual managers allowing different options. This is only feasible if it is done on a department or a functional basis.

People should be anticipating going back to work and stop complaining. You have it good compared to other industries.

My son and daughter both have jobs they have to be at the office 5 days a week and 10 hours a day. Twice my son has been sent home to quarantine because co-workers had tested positive, and I was very worried about my wife and me getting Covid. There are many people that have to go into their offices every single day, and I feel we have been so lucky to get to work from home. People are just against Vicky and they will never get over it. I for one think Oxy is doing the right thing after hearing other oil companies in Houston have people in the office. Seems like if you are doing a good job at home you manager has flexibility to extend the work from home. Plus, a lot of us have a ton of PTO that has accumulated during the virus, and we could just take that if needed.

I think it is a great way to do things. I also think it will be between you and your direct manager to work something out. It is really nice to have options and not be forced back. This is a great plan, and people need to know that Oxy is doing this in our best interest. I for one am thankful.
