Id like to start off by saying hello, long time reader first time posting. Id now like to open up an honest discussion about what some of you may be facing at work. Are your managers encouraging you to make unnecessary repairs to " make production numbers?" I know for a fact and have hard evidence on the ready and witnesses for a Federal court hearing that there are certain locations where this is happening. Managers are forcing you to steal repairs to make a certain quota. Can anyone tell me why? And what other locations besides the one im talking about are doing this? Thoughts, reactions, opinions appreciated.

This is in reply to the person who said for a federal court case, it shouldn't be hard to find witnesses... That is not exactly true.
The primary downside of accepting a buyout or severance package is in the fine print it prevents you from EVER being part of any civil suits against Union Pacific Railroad... They are dotting their i's and crossing their it's when they let you go - and you can not only never come back to work for them, you can never pursue legal action...
30 repairs per day at my location if productivity falls below 70% the will cut a job. So its not fear of being written up its the fear of someone losing their job.
The stealing of repairs for billing has been going on longer than you can imagine and I assume for the other class1s also
Corners are being cut in every department at UP. If you really are wanting a federal court hearing, you shouldn’t have a hard time finding witnesses. In my over 20 years with this company I have never seen the public and employees more at risk then they are right now.
A long time reader that has witnesses for a federal case? Witnesses to what? The second you show witnesses, the UP legal team will do whatever it takes to discredit them, and the case will go nowhere. This post made no sense to me. If you're a long time reader then why are you asking for specifics? If you've been reading these for a while then you don't need specifics. You should already have them. If you don't, then go back and read them. I'm sure they're still on here. Lots of good reading in the past.
livonia yard repairs. 10 per day per carman or be upgraded as failure to comply. what do you think is happening?
We were told to bill for repairs that they knew we didn't have time to do at Proviso. We were required to have a certain amount or they wrote us up for non compliance. I actually got written up by a manager named James Johnson for that. That is when I decided to leave the company.
Are you kidding me? You've been a long time reader, and you're speaking up now? Why didn't you speak earlier? This disaster has been going on for almost 2 years. I take great comfort in knowing that there's people that are watching this situation. It's just pissing me off that people that people who can do something, are being quiet about it. You're asking for specific details about shady things that are going on. Go interview the current and former employees of the UP to get your details. Better yet, go apply for a position at the UP so you can see it more clearly.
Evidence of unnecessary repairs? Who is left to do them? We don’t have enough people left to make the repairs that are needed! Locomotives are like cars now, if it rolled in it will roll out!
They are not encouraging us to make unnecessary repairs. We can't even get them to allow us to make the necessary repairs. Wish I had a dollar for every time I saw a loco on an outbound consist with no oil on the dipstick or low water. Those are just the basic things! Their one and absolute only concern is getting those locomotives released as fast as possible, repaired or not. If we're short on billed time, we are expected to put in tasks to make the time. They don't care at all about if the work was actually done. The times allowed for tasks are so skewed that none of it really matters. In truth, all shops are about the same, some are just better at the numbers game. The only thing keeping it all going is the fact that some employees still do their jobs as a matter of personal pride. However, I promise you that those same employees absolutely hate the company and don't care one bit about its success as a whole.
Well if these are legitimate questions by someone who can actually do something about it, then I'd like to start off by saying that just every location is doing it. Locomotive inspections and repairs aren't being done, car repairs are substandard at best, threats of termination from management for taking too long to do required inspections/repairs, and the lack of manpower. I thought the stealing of work was obvious with the amount of furloughs that taken place. I'm not sure what you meant by "make unnecessary repairs" though. The simple answer is that the repairs aren't being done or being written off by management. The stealing of repairs is happening at some locations to make that location look productive to avoid closure. The UP has a really severe morale problem, hostile managers and unsafe work environment, and unfair work/break schedules. I'd certainly like to see something get done about it, but I have a feeling nothing will change. Everything happening at the UP is all in the interest of profit to the shareholders. Always was and always will be. Until someone steps in and actually does something about it, then it will never change. A good first step forward would be to get rid of that CEO and COO. It all started with them!
