Thread regarding DST Systems layoffs

Working Parents

How is DST / SS&C handling associates who have school aged children who aren't going back to school in the fall or doing remote or hybrid learning? Cutting hours? Offering alternative schedules? We're going be required to parent, teach and work simultaneously, which is not possible for most.

As much as I hate ssnc, this really isn't their problem

SS&C could care less about you or your family. Your manager would have to make a non SS&C decision how they may work with you. Some employers are allowing employees to work remote flex hours to help support them to look after their children as they have to do remote school classes but do not expect SS&C to support this at all.

But it isn’t a situation specific to this employer. It is a societal issue. Vote accordingly in November.

It's a shtty situation, worse now than it was in the spring. Now a lot places are open but require masks. Day cares are open because most everyone is back at work. But these dmn schools want to do remote schooling again. For two working parents it's impossible; that's three jobs: teacher, parent, employee.

What options do parents have? One quits their job to manage remote schooling? Two parents split the duty and work late into the night after kids go to sleep, to make up the time (this is what we have to do)? Put your kids into some sort of remote learning pod at someones house (what was the point of that remote schooling again)?

It's an untenable situation for families!

Our manager (who doesn't have school age children) made it clear to four of us that SS&C doesn't pay us to be babysitters or day care providers, so it was a basic FU.

The obvious answer is talk to your manager. I'm guessing they might be asking if there is job protection, as in a FMLA type situation? No one these days can afford to lose their job or pay over situations we can't control. Nor should anyone be punished for having children.

How are they supposed to handle them? Why would the onus of managing families fall to an employer?

They seem not to care about there employees at all for the last 12 years. If you get some help from a manager I will be surprised.
