Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

Salary Question...New Hire

Joined Shell a year ago I am 23 years old and I am an electrical engineer I work in downstream...currently make 100k exact...when I am about 30, say I am still in downstream and don't get any crazy promotions how much should I be making about? If I stay an engineer at Shell. Basically what is a 30 yo Electrical engineer making at Shell (downstream). Thanks!

*P.S: I know the industry is c-ap right now. I have a degree that isn't tied to O&G...i am well aware just curious

You're on a site called the LAYOFF asking what your salary could be in 7 years?

If you’re still in a JG5 role, I agree that you’re looking at about 100% PIR. If JG4, I’d guess 90% PIR.

Looking at all of the news flying around on refineries being shopped, there probably won’t be many US downstream sites left in 7 years. Good news is that your EE experience is very transferable.

It’s been a few years since I played the game, but offers at west coast tech companies were +20% salary vs Shell and offered six-figure stock plans vesting over 3-4 years. Cost of living puts a significant dent in that and the benefits aren’t as good as what you can get at Shell though

Some of u are dumb. Not gonna lie. Ppl calling me a troll and blaming engineers on the stock price and not the fact that oil is at 40 dollars a barrel. 🤔. I respect the other valuable inputs but on the PIR, but if you do not have any valuable insights u can shut your mouth. And take several seats back smh, keep your negativity to yourself thanks and have a great day!

Look up what your roles 100% PIR is, that’s close to what you will be making if you stay in the same role.

He only has one data point...not really useful in extrapolation.

But I agree, the OP is a troll.

This is why the stock price is $29 and we have the prelude problem. Engineers not able to extrapolate out basic financials. Unreal..
