Attention Kmart Shoppers: Empty Shelves Don’t Mean Stores Are Closing
By Diana Dias -July 25, 2020

As shoppers enter any of the four Kmart stores in the U.S. Virgin Islands – at Sunny Isle Shopping Center and Sunshine Mall on St. Croix and the Tutu Mall and Lockhart Gardens Shopping Center on St. Thomas – they are greeted by shelves that are visibly empty.

But the stores are not closing, one employee said.

60 Sears stores left and 35 Kmarts, and those numbers dropping quickly. It's just a matter of time before we all read an article about Sears and Kmart titled "And then there were NONE". Amazing how one guy could destroy two legacy retail chains and all of the jobs and careers that went with them. It's like treating all the Sears and Kmart stores like a plant, starving it of water and daring it to live and prosper. A very sad ending for two once very prominent and storied retailers, thanks singlehandedly to Ed Lampert.

So, he won't use the insurance money to repair and rebuild?

Maybe Isaias wiped them out?

I'm not even slightly kidding here, Eddie's hoping that the predicted busy Atlantic hurricane season will take them out for the insurance money.

All the islanders who abandoned the store for amazon.com should look in the mirror.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the US Virgin Island stores were some of the next ones. Eddie is probably trying to negotiate with someone like Walmart to take over them so he can get the most money out of it not because he actually cares about any of the workers or people living there.

We all know just all the others stores these are closing down, just seems they might be closing before some others.
