Thread regarding Dril-Quip Inc. layoffs

Lay-off advice?

I’m currently up for redundancy, in my group I’m the only one on a contract that ends soon. Everyone else is on a permanent contract.

Question is am I likely to get let go as the rest of the guys are permanent? And if that is the case should I take VR?

Thanks

I would take the VR. Get the extra 2/3 weeks off paid before getting let go. Even though they say you will get the same treatment, how can they keep a contract worker over a permanent employee? Managers won’t take the risk to keep a contract worker because what’s the chances they will be allowed to over you a contract extension or a permanent position? Don’t see how they would be able to justify that after paying so much people off.

Are you on a DQ contract or agency contract ?

You may be favoured over a permanent employee when they do the scoring if you are on a DQ contract.

Ask HR to clarify your rights as a contract worker.

Typically, a contractor is ineligible for any VR or severance benefits, at least in the US. That’s why DQ uses them so heavily.
