Based on the recent news of 7 nm issues, is there any rumors of any upcoming layoffs?

Once Bob started focusing more on social activism and not on winning at building better Si, things that were bad have only gotten worse. The current approach is to mindlessly cut costs, constantly re-organize and to hire for diversity. Morale is the lowest I've seen in years and management seems lost.
With the covid/WFH compute purchasing binge done and AMD getting the consumer headlines for cost-effective products it’s going to be a rough patch revenue-wise for Intel. Cash through stock sales has become 20% more challenging in the last 6 weeks as well. Given all this there is a good chance for layoffs. However do expect that the usual toady boot licker types will survive. Like c—roaches during a nuclear blast, they will see others die around them but somehow they will survive!
Layoffs will soon follow once it becomes clear to management that the revenue side hits we all expect have been quantified (the loss of Apple’s expenditures for modems and Apple laptop processors, AMD/NVidia/Others taking market share, etc.). They won’t wait for all the hits to land either. Not sure it’ll be as high as 25K, but it won’t be zero either.
Regarding layoffs and there being 25K by next year....that’s nonsense. There is still so much work to be done there and they’ll need the workforce to execute the work. I know that people are panicking and saying outlandish things right now, but we’ll right the ship.
25k employees will be laid off by end of next year. Insider information.
Half the managers along with all surviving dead wood from the 2016 shameful disaster need to go. Not surprised at all Intel hasn't met it's 7 nm commitment. They haven't met a commitment in 10 years.
Murthy from fabless background never knew how to lead a fab which was once leader in the technology.
Level 4 is generous for Murthy. Intel has failed in phones, tablet, wearables, 5G, process technology under his leadership. How can anyone still believe in meritocracy if Intel doesn't get rid of him?
a “stock level 4” on the R&R for Murthy is long overdue!
Murthy claimed big things in 2016 and later took ownership of TMG for more control - many leaders left under his (including BK's) leadership. It is very sad to see tech heavy Intel becomes today's loser.

Question is not about layoffs anymore, it's about Intel's survival...
Many companies that Intel acquired didn't, and sadly won't, generate any revenue or usable IPs, Nervana, Movidius, ... you name it. Intel should first write off these dead weight, to improve short term profit margin. If 7nm products are delayed by only 6 months, as the management promised, things won't be too bad. We will definitely lose some market share to AMD, but still have the majority of both server and PC markets. This happened before, when we screwed up Nehalem, but we came back on top. In the long run, America must own semiconductor foundries. America must design and manufacture its own processors. Sad but true, and I feel ashamed to say, but it's already in the news, that the government must and will support Intel to compete with TSMC. All in all, Intel management and senior technical leadership really screwed up big time, again and again. Get rid of them too, making sure tax payers' money is not wasted.
Bob plans to being in armies from outsourcing shops to speed up testing work
I've worked at Intel for about 25 years. It's very sad to witness its demise, but my trust in the company has been eroded with SET, ACT, and more recent layoffs. I remember they days when the company talked about its bonus structure and how that allowed the company to avoid layoffs. Anyways, I'm so glad I'm leaving soon for a different company. Happy to be getting out of here.
Where is the accountability Murthy is not performing he needs to go now.
Murthy might be a leading indicator ... if the true shake up happens.
There was rumor about the fed tossing intel a bone to help with production. Hopefully that pans out, or Intel may be in serious trouble. Likely layoffs are 2 to 3 quarters away as it stands. It's obvious who is there now is not cutting it.
Yay, let’s be even more understaffed so that we can deliver even less
TMG will have layoffs as Bean counter Bob outsources and PTD fails again
Profit margin is dropping in upcoming quarter. Any action is justified.
Murthy must go. What he has done for the past five years other than piling sh– after sh–? There are too many people what they want as a result but have no idea what it takes to make it happen or even it's even feasible. These guys are behaving like children.
I truly has a doubt whether semicohdudtor manufacturing in US is even compatible with American culture.
If the layoffs are impending - are they likely to affect PTD or Manufacturing ?
@agi+16637kwb Laying off the best people we had even if they didn't tick tock on time is what got Intel in this mess in the first place.
Yeah. Swan and Murthy...
only a matter of time. if funding for these different projects dry up because of poor financial performance , layoffs are guaranteed
They should ACT those who run the 7nm - status report is good but bring no result.
