I understand the situation is tough right now and Aflac needs to lay off some people, but what makes no sense is who is being laid off. These people will have to be replaced by two new people once we are hiring again to make sure the job they used to do on their own actually gets done. Why do that? How is that going to help the company in any way?

You think too logical and not about immediate financial gains. Exec's do crazy things to juggle the numbers to enhance their bonus. Its paid for in future generations. Meanwhile, experience and knowledge exits the building. And these clowns get there bonus and move on.
