Those who entertain conspiracy theories are not worth engaging with.
Macy's 3rd & 4th quarter numbers will definitely suffer this year. Just wondering how will Macy's pay the vendors at the end of this year. Look at JCPenney, they stop paying the vendors around April and later they file for bankruptcy. They can't afford paying the vendors and paying the rent to the malls landlords this year. Will Macy's follow the same path? Next year will probably be a difficult decision for Macy's.
Well awwwwright now Miss Cleo!!! Tell us more from your crystal ball!!!! 🙄
The second wave of coronavirus will be the fall and winter. So Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Eve is not going to be the same. So many people will be sick either with the flu or COVID-19. There will be alot of stay-at-home orders from states, citys, and countys. Macy's and retail stores will suffer this fall or 4th quarter numbers. Definitely there will be layoffs but not in October. It will be on February 2021, right after January inventory.

Not laying off in October
We have already realized we let too many go in June because people who were not termed in that group are now giving notice and quitting. We've brought back everyone from furlough and still can't fill our hours. Why would you layoff more in October as you are getting ready for whatever is coming in fall for Christmas? Yes there will still be a Christmas.
