It's quite intriguing how the scenario at Caterpillar has unfolded. The company's recent decisions regarding pay adjustments for agency and contractor employees, contrasted with subsequent raises for its own staff, sparks a broader conversation on corporate policies during economic fluctuations. This article on Techstaffer delves deeper into the implications of such strategies, not just for Caterpillar but across the tech industry, where similar practices are stirring concerns among employees. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for anyone involved in or affected by the tech sector, providing a clearer picture of the market trends and corporate decision-making processes. For a more comprehensive insight into what this means for workers like those at Caterpillar, I recommend reading the full article.

Then stop supporting this kind of companies and resign whenever you can find another job! It’s only through massive departures and people who speak up that companies will change their ethics. I did it and now I’m happy I did it. My new company now is not laying off people but hiring new workers. So yes even during covid it’s possible when you’re not in the stock exchange

Sadly, Cat doesn't protect their "management" staff either. You just don't hear about these layoffs because they chalk them up to "restructuring the business unit" or "reorganizing." I've watched so many really good, hard-working people lose their jobs because they were in the wrong desk at the wrong time. Frankly, we're ALL contractors. Wall Street manages Caterpillar. The company is run by the Board (move to Dearfield, anyone?) - fellow CEOs looking out for each other, not what's best for the company in the long-run. My sincere sympathies to all those affected by job loss, furlough, and wage cuts. We don't deserve it and we didn't earn it.

That is what happens when you hire to many employees and at Cat the culture is to protect each other weather the person does good, bad or even no job. The funny thing is they cringe when they hire consultants or agencies since they feel their job is threatened. There is simply too much fat in this company especially in the Illinois offices.
