Has it been easy for employees around 50+ to find jobs after being let go by Cummins this year?

It has been difficult. Numerous applications and interviews since January with no luck. I'm sure in a couple of cases it has been an age thing. With no end in sight of getting this Covid pandemic under control, I'm becoming more pessimistic.
Essentially they want you to work cheap and be young. It's amazing that white collar is feeling the economic hit of the hourly and essentially they are expendable also.
I was let go by Cummins Engine in a RIF in the spring. I've only had 2 interviews, even though I have most, if not all, of the qualifications for the jobs I've applied for. In both interviews, they only wanted to talk about how little I would be willing to work for given my qualifications. One told me flat out that I was skilled, articulate, and would be a great catch for them...BUT they believed that people like me were overqualified and would move on once they found something better. I have a family and need to support them. Please let me be the judge of what I will and will not work for.
And you won't hear alot, many companies are freezing hiring or really full time hiring because they know it's still bad out there. I'm sorry to hear, but the US is going to be in a horrible recession and it's going to be real long.
If there are Defense industry companies in your area, I'd look there. In my experience, they value the breadth of experience that older employees bring to the table.
40+ year olds hasn’t been easy either!
No it hasn't, they are overlooking the 50 year old and older for younger workers because in their mind they know you are going to cost them insurance wise.
