Why do check-ins at all?

Seems like a waste of time especially now when the futures looks so bleak

This is a GE ism.
Do away with PPR and its admin costs....lower employees expectation of reviews, raises and bonus.
Shareholder value at its best.
Pretty soon nobody will remember what a raise is, or a bonus.... kinda like how they used to memory hole previous quarter's results before delivering the goose eggs in the final statement.

Check-ins were already an awkward beast, even before the downturn. Not sure what they were thinking when they came up with this. Relax, it's not your review. It's just a "check in." So, uhhh...just speak your mind. Right.

No structure provided doesn't mean it lacks structure, It just means you have to poke around and ask the right person to figure out what the heck they expect. I'd take an old-fashioned, honest, annual review any day.
