Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Well done, OXY. Decency.

Very impressed that they actually restored salaries. Great news! Shows some decency!

Oxy got $195MM from the CARES act. (Google Bloomberg article) But they weren’t obligated to apply it to employee salaries. Then that (supposed) tv producer posted on here looking for people to interview about what Oxy did with their cares act refund.

CARES act applies to businesses with 500 employees or less.

July 1st is after June 30th. Duh! Getting our salaries back had nothing to do with some Cares loan BS.

Is this true about the loan forgiveness? Huge if true. I thought that specific language was for the small business Covid loan forgiveness.

Oxy restored salaries in order to qualify for federal CARES Act loan forgiveness. The deadline to restore employee salaries that were previously reduced and still qualify for loan forgiveness is June 30, 2020. Oxy did not do this out of the goodness of their heart. Just more shady business practices. It was all calculated. Cut salaries then restore them right at the deadline. Oxy is the new Chesapeake. EC bunch of Fecal Slimeballs.

You are right about change. If I were a Black American I would be upset at the knee jerk reactions of the politicians and large companies. Pull the statues, change the name of the Aunt Jemima syrup, pull all history of the civil war out, etc. That does nothing for the black race, but maybe make them feel a little better something is happening. I say go back 60 days from now and see where it stands. Hold the politicians responsible for changing education, food for the poor both black and white, and health care. Don't get fooled by the politicians doing exactly what their name represents. They do all their little token gestures just to get the press.

Also, we all better get use to defending and policing ourselves. With the bad cops needing to go all the good cops see their profession held in contempt. I for one like the idea of having a cop between me and the bad guys, but you will start to see crime go up and 911 response that takes 1/2 and hour. Wait till someone comes in your house with a gun or knife and you have to wait 30 minutes for a cop. Bad cops need to go for sure, but hopefully we will have some good ones left. Just go into any gun store or hunting store and you will see hardly any guns or ammo left. People are already starting to prepare to defend themselves.

So yes Corporate America will be changing, but the rest of the world has gone to hell.

The threat of nationwide civil unrest has changed the corporate agenda, the only question is how far will it go..........

Decency that's a laugh and quite a rush to judgement. More likely, they were going to get sued and didnt have enough money to pay a legal firm. Layoffs next....

You probably will not need all of the people after assets are sold. Headcount should decrease as capital programs go away. Then some people can be sent from/to the woodlands building to spread the workforce out.

I honestly still don’t see how we can go back any time soon as long as the guidance for a known contact with a positive case is to self isolate.

Is that an indication that they will be moving back to the office soon instead of WFH..........will help offset increased costs to employees? Automobile maintenance/OPEX increases, potential tolls (depending on where the commute is from), increased wardrobe costs (no more working in shorts), $12 lunches in the GW atrium, and commute/elevator time increases. Made possible by $30———> +/BO.

Awesome. You lazy and do nothing employees. ByeBye! I am very grateful and thankful my parents raised me with strong work ethics, to where I decided and kept doing 100 PLUS percent on a 30% reduced Salary. I am grateful for my job, the OXY folks I work with, and our APC folks who have stayed on. Many Thanks and gratitude to OXY management for the restoration of our salaries.

For sure Thank You Oxy. Puts a whole new spin on getting up in the morning and giving 100%. I am at the last few years of my career, and the cut had really put me back 10-15 years in salary level. Now I can sock some more away for the golden age that is coming fast.

@oai+15tQnWA4 because in this economy and the looming 2nd wave of pandemic, a lot of us didn't expect to get our full salary back and certainly not next month, which is sooner than the August review they initially mentioned. It is the right thing to do, and we are thrilled they are doing it. Nothing obligated them to return our pay except that it's the right thing to do. It certainly improved my morale.

Thank God, because I would have needed to find supplement income elsewhere.
