Covid cases going up, I really hope OXY doesn't try to make us go back to the office anytime soon! Its everywhere in Houston.

If people act like they do in the public then I don't see how anyone can go back to any office without a high risk of getting Covid. It does look like the more cases are due to more testing and people just getting back to normal, but that is not good enough. Also, the death rate is down a lot. But I still have people walk up on me at stores without mask, and I just don't see why we have to tolerate people being inconsiderate. I am sure there are just as many dems and republicans involved, so don't take it to politics. Just looking at how it is I do not think our return to work should be ruined by inconsiderate people. If you don't want to wear a mask and practice distancing then you need to be called out, and at that point you don't deserve to work with your co-workers that are trying to practice good behavior during this time. Or keep the people at home that are practicing good social distancing and wearing of masks, and keep the germ pool at the office. We all know there are going to be those that reject the idea of practicing safe behavior. I am all for Oxy putting in strict rules and if people don't follow those rules they need to be out. These are some very weird times, but we have to sacrifice some at the office for it to work. I sure hope our Safety Department takes returning to the office and implements the rules we need.
Things are not looking very good for a return very soon. Good luck to everyone as we deal with this increase in cases. Everyone needs to practice safe social distancing and wear a mask. It looks like even the young are coming down with the virus now.
As if Covid was not bad enough we have to worry about or safety from all the crazy a– criminals running around now. Defund the cops and watch out as you drive through downtown or wait at a bus stop. They need to increase the security around Greenway to keep the low life criminals way.
Heard that someone in the Phase 1 group that went to the GW office tested positive for COVID...but no notice has been sent to other employees that were also in the office. Real good communication, OXY.
I think the OP is right, and I would not be surprised if we don’t get back to the office until the fall. Looks like we might of opened too soon and I hate to say that.
You did see the article where they extended the lease today?
To the last OP, we are doing the same here, mask up, gloves, disinfectant, no bars, no protests, no crowded places. Perform safe behaviors. Maintain our distances. We are Thankful OXY is continuing WFH and hopefully through July given so much uncertainty. We have had some interesting WFH situations In which we have been able to come up with creative solutions which have worked well. This is good because will enable OXY to look at more cost saving measures, lower rent less space being leased, lower costs for parking, etc. with all the technologies WHY should OXY be paying millions and millions just to have an entire workforce be present in person at Greenway Plaza when many of us can work very effectively from home, But it would be nice to have a rotating basis and our groups be together in the offices 2 days a week. Rotate groups and shared offices.
We are all learning the strengths and weaknesses of WFH. An unexpected experiment but could pay huge savings for OXY should WFH be more seriously considered, implemented, cut leasing costs, facilities. Etc.
Thanks for sharing, and thankfully they could help her. In her twenties and otherwise healthy and Covid did that to her. I am practicing safe behaviors such as wearing a mask when I am out anywhere, and we usually hang around the house anyway. I just don't see everyone practicing safe behavior, so I am not sure any job would be worth the outcome. There are just too many people out and about protesting, going to bars, etc. I really don't care if they go, but I don't want them to share something with me for being in the same building. Oxy has done the right thing so far, and we can just wait to see how long we get to WFH.
Y’all. Google “Covid-19 patient gets lung transplant” and take a look at the pix of a Covid-19 lung.
I don’t care about your party affiliation the color of your skin or whatever, but I’d never wish this upon anyone. Be safe out there.
So this Covid...right!?
The big spike is not due to kids so forget about WFH beyond the end of the month. The spike is due to irresponsible people going out to church and parties.
The greatest cause for spikes in the Coronavirus spreading in corporate environments has been from those going into the office simply to get away from their kids. You had them so 1) stay home!, 2) stop putting others at risk and 3) save that little extra Economic Impact Payment you received for having the kids.
Children are an externality wherein parents get 'the good' and the world, the community, pay the cost. Stop putting your choices onto others.
As a parent, I am choosing to do my part and WFH!
This is what happens when you have nearly four decades of education suppression (primarily in the south), you end up with people more interested in telling you where they went to college opposed to what they actually learned from the experience if anything? They think being a skeptic without actually producing a compelling argument is somehow challenging authority, when all it reveals is simple fact they’re nothing but simplistic contrarians that can’t even comprehend the basic functions of government. They’re as simple as “eat, sleep, go to work and find the occasional horizontal refreshment”, nothing else matters while they reside inside their “bubble” and I hate to say it but their “bubble” just popped.
I'm really worried about COVID, too. I hope we can continue WFH and keep our families SAFE.
Why don’t people just go back and forth from home to work and nothing else. They don’t need church. They don’t need parties. Going out to the grocery store or to a well designed restaurant are minor risks for COVID19. People are so foolish and generally don’t care about society.
I would agree Oxy has done WFH right, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there are alternative reasons besides employees’ safety.
And regarding VSP, name your own price version, does anyone know what the counts were? Rumor I heard was ridiculously low.
I thought about making a VSP offer, but decided to roll the dice and hopefully work from home. Maybe they will let us up north work from The Woodlands if they need us back in the office. But Montgomery County is seeing an increase as well. What it comes down to is practicing safe social distancing, wearing mask, etc. The problem is many people practice this, but there are so many who don't. You will never be safe as long as others disregard what the professionals are saying and march in the streets and cause chaos and all. At some point we are either going to have to retire, find a job you can work from home, or take a chance and go to work. I would also have to say Oxy has played this right to this point. We have been WFH since early March, and that does say something.
The company is being very conservative about sending people back to the office. I’m not sure why everyone is so worried. Oxy seems to be getting this one right.
If you are so scared of going to work then be sure not to got to the grocery store, restaurants, don’t buy gas, don’t got to Home Depot, not Target or Walmart, or anywhere. Hide away in your home. It’s scary out there. WAAAAAHH!
You are making a huge assumption, that Oxy cares about you! They don't VH and "manage"ment have always cared about filling their pockets, and parachuting when necessary or advantages to them.
