What happens to our unemployment payments during the severance.? I'm already receiving payments from the furlough but what if we don't get a job once the severance kicks in. Do we get both payments at the same time?

Or just fill out the forms honestly, it's not rocket science. When asked if you received income during a period answer yes. In the followup when it asks if the payment was in exchange for signing a release of claims answer yes if true.
Although some posting seem to know, I wouldn't use TheLayoff for legal advice. Call a pro bono attorney. Local universities usually have one or know of someone that will answer fundamental questions.
Unless you are familiar with the Texas work case laws. If you are incorrect, then you could be on the hook for repaying the employment compensation with penalties, and interest few years down the road.
Interesting and we did sign our life away to make sure there was a payment to us if we didn’t sue or hold Sabre liable for any reason. This is all so confusing but the latest post made a lot of legal sense.
Read the TWC site thoroughly. Don't assume it's severance just because Sabre calls it that. From TWC:
"Other types of post-termination payments that are neither severance pay nor wages in lieu of notice:
an incentive paid to obtain a release or waiver of liability from the departing employee with regard to the Civil Rights Act of 1991, or to settle a claim or lawsuit that has already been filed, or in connection with a written contract that was negotiated between the employer and employee prior to the date of the work separation - a payment like that will not affect unemployment benefits."
And read the GSR you are required to sign in order to receive "severance". My conclusion is that what Sabre calls "severance" is what TWC calls "release of liability". If you agree and claim as such, you should be able to receive unemployment and payment for "release of liability" (what Sabre calls severance) at the same time.
When you do your payment request for unemployment, you will need to report your income and unemployment will be held from you until that ends. Then unemployment benefits will pick up again.
In tx if you had to sign a release of claims to get severance it shouldn't disqualify you from receiving unemployment.
