Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

Upcoming job cuts (July 1st):

Ok, with the CEO fully committed to run the place into the ground, make your best guess which units get thinned come July 1st. A few ice breakers:

Unconventionals - cuts already in progress
Conventional oil & gas R&D (why bother anymore?)I
Drilling - lots of paper pushers, NTPs
Exploration - definitely some thinning, too much skill-less deadwood hiding in the thick forest
Development - no reorg since 2019, things are getting slow, needs to be freshened up
HR - face it, the US HR ain't good at keeping legal trouble away anyway, off they go
Honorable mention - digitalization, why waste money here if one can buy instead some profit-less windmills
NL folks - just too many of them there, take out every 3rd one

More observations?

Why wait to find out? It's time to jump ship while there are still jobs out there before they are snatched up.

Is the money spent on digi-automation really worth it???? Why doesn't the company ask the people who actually use it, and figure out the hours spent going behind the scenes correcting the data. Just crazy.

Global Functions (IT, HR, Legal, Real Estate, Finance) won't know how many staff they need to cut until the businesses make their decisions. Expect this to be a several-months-long process.

For those Cowboys that think the Dutch are the ones who are going to be hammered, think again, a) this is a Dutch company, b) the Dutch government actually looks out for its people, so it’s hard to fire people over there, unlike in the US, where the government actively helps corporations milk their gullible drones. So yes, it will be the good Sheeple of Woodcreek that will shed plenty of tears. Of course there are cuts in unconventionals, they have been cutting them since 2012, you had plenty of time and warning to get out. Exploration, yes keep making big promises, while wasting huge amounts of cash and never delivering anything, can’t go on forever....It all cascades down from there.
