I feel that these rumors spread because management wants you to keep guessing when these events will take place and not put forth any effort towards telling the truth for once. The union will even jerk you around when in reality no one is safe from a furlough or a layoff due to a contract that was signed stating that if you were on a specific line before it went operational (Longitude or skycourier) then your job is safe (the short hand version of it). I have had to deal with the union more times than i even wanted to and the end result everytime is that they do not work for the people who are members of the union that pay their dues and line up the pockets of those who run the union and in kind the union does what is best for the company and gives the members of the union that work at the company the bird. It is really just a combination of the trickle down effect from both union and company combined but believe what you will
