Thread regarding Cogswell Polytechnical College layoffs

Are we Art Institute or Cogswell?

I worked and left the Art Institutes for a reason. And now those very reasons are starting to present themselves at Cogswell. I'm not going to say we were perfect 3-4 years ago, but I can honestly say that it's getting worse. What may have worked at the Art Institutes over the course of the past 10 years are no longer relevant nor can be successful in today's climate, both in higher education, the industries we support, and generation Z? Why are we trying to recreate a system of an institution that went under?

It was difficult talking to employees that I worked with. Some have recently left others are still there. I was fortunate to go back into the industry a few years back. I enjoyed my time sharing my expertise with students. They were wide eyed and motivated. From what I hear, the management team has changed the culture of the campus so much that even the students that are being brought in are not as invested in their craft. It's now a numbers game.

I voiced my concerns a few months before I quit. Hoping that they would acknowledge some of them. I didn't expect any changes to go back to other practices, but at least have a platform to explain why the changes. The president's arrogance was prevalent in every town hall meeting. How Cogswell s—s and AI was the way.

Cogswell was a great college that needed tweaking but not a complete overhaul. I don't recognize it anymore. So corporate. There's a way to improve it without losing its culture and identity. Apparently, the campus president thought differently and wanted to change everything including the people. Unless they left on their own.

Lots of people, including myself, left for this very reason. They hired the new CEO because they though AI had the secret to success. But they seemed to have forgotten that AI went under BECAUSE THEY DIDN"T

AI went down for a reason. Now they want to take that same downward direction with Cogswell? Shame

Many companies are laying off right about now due to the pandemic so you can necessarily put that all on the school. I did notice an abrupt change with the new management. Not sure I agreed with the direction, which is why I left. My advice to anyone, is that if you are not comfortable with the direction your organization is going in, then you have the opportunity to look and work elsewhere. It was difficult, because I enjoyed my time with the people and students. But the market was good last year and many and better opportunities came my way. Sometimes it's best to just start a new chapter.

That's why I quit last year. It was difficult because I cared about my students, but I no longer believed in the institution.

THANK YOU! Those are the sentiments of many people, both students and employees. Who does the CEO report to? Those people should be aware of how the people truly feel about the direction of Cogswell.
