Thread regarding Cummins Inc. layoffs

RIF

Any news on possibility of RIF later in the year? Especially with the kind of quarter involving all the closures, if the demand doesn’t pick up dramatically, it looks certain that there will be significant reduction in force later in the year. Please share if you have any news. Thanks!

I remember when Sears got out of the catalog business too. How'd that work out for them. Since CMI purchased the DBU, it's been a steady shift to k–l the branches and get out of the distribution and retail business. The only problem with that is the branches are the only real advocate for Cummins products. When I started working for the DBU branch, Cummins had a dominate market share in the HD group for exanple, now it's barely a third. I don't know any company that believes in contraction is how to improve growth. When DBU existed these branches were profitable, but now all of a sudden they aren't. This a clear indication CMI leadership is inept about retail and how relations with customers and dealers are vital. I feel sorry for all my friends still working there and having to endure this. At first I was sad, cuz it was a great job, now I feel lucky they made me move on.

I worked in Garden City KS and they came in last week and told all of us they were permanently closing the branch, they also closed Colby KS so now there is only one branch location left in the state of KS. Sure appears they want out of distribution by the moves they are making. Over 400 technicians and several hundred Parts employees have already been RIF’d this year in the US and they aren’t done...

Can you elaborate on which locations closed this week? If they did close is this a permanent closure?

Thanks

They have closed additional branch locations this week and that trend will likely continue. What stable company that wants to remain in the distribution business eliminates Fully certified Cummins diesel Technicians theses days.. NONE!!!

I don't think so, they are bringing people back in order to get those orders out that they where working on before the shutdown. SEP I heard is on 6 10 hour days and yet the rest of CTC is on 36 hour weeks. They are making cuts and will continue to make cuts it's just that now they are consolidating to areas that they can get their money made.

Our numbers have skyrocketed and they are bringing people back that have been laid off from plant shutdowns Due to covid-19. They are pushing to get rid of inventory. The way it feels is that they are building buffers because they know there are gonna be layoffs in the coming months. This isn’t confirmed but this isn’t my first rodeo with the company.
