Thread regarding Halliburton Co. layoffs

Odds of being recalled (just in general and this company specifically)

My first layoff. The papers they gave us basically say it's possible they could recall laid off workers if they can expand business but that you should not count on it and you should consider the layoff permanent. Certainly not counting on that ever happening, but just curious - do people ever get recalled or do they always try to find new people to fill new jobs once the economy recovers?

Would you really want to be called back by this incompetent, pos company? Watching them walk people out the door or by phone call after giving them 20+yrs without respect. Local underqualified HR is an absolute joke and brags about getting the position due to multiple injuries while being a mechanic due to his own negligence at this location and lands the HR job because he was too risky for shop or field. Are you kidding me? He wants it to be a humbling story but it really shows how incompetent this company really is. He actually tells this story in some of the meetings, the entire time my mind is saying wtf. There is no hope because if this how they select HR ...you know the ignorance you will be dealing with for years to come.

@7epy+15eiF30u - when you have kids to support and mortgage to pay etc. then you will accept the offer until you find another option to work for someone else. Is not time to be picky right now.
Well if one has a decent bank account then yes, but not for someone who needs money to pay bills.

I’ve been called back so the whole they post the position and you have to reapply is bull corn. Also word of the wise you should accept it if you get called back, like some said you will your benefits if they find out your turned down a job which HAL who is paying your unemployment insurance most certainly will.

To answer Hallibaby. If you get called back and refuse your government benefits can be revoked if they find out you were offered a position and declined it. If you get a call back in this market I would definitely take it, do your best to try to counter their offer for an increase of whatever salary they’ve offered you and ride out the storm as best you can. Once there is less solvency in the market you can begin to look for other opportunities.

I got laid off in April 2015 and called back the following January of 2016 - and started back in the summer waiting on them to increase my pay 5% which was good since I got only one raise since and will be laid off this month again

If you decide to return, screw them ask for 20% increase. Do not expect any loyalty. Do not expect any guarantee.
Once you are back do not expect raises.
I have learned time and time again.... you get more money quitting finding another position and a year later come back and demand more mullah bullah.

They don’t call people back. They post the position opening and you would have to apply again.

Next question... if they do happen to call you back, would you lose unemployment payments if you refuse?
