Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

This is not right

I still don't think we should of had to give up 30% of our salary, and then continue to have layoffs and vsp offers. With less people to hold down the fort and do the job we should at least be paid the same as those that were laid off. There are people laid off for various reasons that are getting paid 30% more than those of us that are working. That is the hardest part about not taking the vsp. Even if you get paid only for the next seven months it is 30% more than what you will make staying here. Oxy really is not going to be saving on salaries until all the people that are laid off and took the vsp come off the payroll. I am sure all the other benefits add up to a good amount, but man if you are going to keep the ones that stayed working twice and three times as hard at least pay them what the industry warrants. Oxy wants to up morale then give those that are left the same pay as those that are gone.

Also, to all those folks saying "oh well you're lucky to have a job, so just shut up and take it": YOU ARE THE PROBLEM. It's not idealistic to expect your employer to treat you well. It's because of people like you that management teams run roughshod over their subordinates with absolutely no fear of consequence. You might be willing to eat s%$@ sandwiches your entire career, but we are not. It's not noble, and it doesn't make you a hero. It makes you someone who is going to look back on your life's work with regret.

Sounds like you have bent over and accepted the position Oxy has given you. I personally think I am worth what I made in the past, and especially now that at least four of my co-workers have been laid off or took the vsp. So they are saving four salaries plus my 30%. I would think with the savings on four salaries they could give me back mine for taking on at least two times more work. If you think they are going to give you back 30% when things get better you are wrong. You might see 8-10%, but not all. They basically readjusted their pay scales and now we are working from where we are at. Don't give in so easily and accept the cut just because you think these are tough times. Guess what oil is at 36.50 today. When it is 60 are you going to say shutup accept what you get. Not me, because I think I am worth more.

Get over yourself. You have a job. Be happy. Those laid off have a little light period, but eventually that will dry up during a DOWNTURN. Stop your crying.

1/0.7 –> They are getting paid 43% more to quit not 30%. Have a bright day!

@lhq+15cRHkDs Even the most motivated eventually burn out without proper support. Happened to me - work hard to make things better and watch some w—rr get promoted for kissing a–.

Top talent isn't going to hang around forever.. especially when the playing field isn't level. Now I make a lot more elsewhere and my work is appreciated.

There are lots of people who would work just as hard for a reduction in salary. It doesn’t necessarily mean they are aligned with the corporate decisions but they have a strong personal work ethic. These high work ethic employees are the people you want long term.

It's why the end is inevitable. Those left are either too spread thin or too apathetic to do decent work. You've paid people to get out of a c-appy situation while reducing pay for those left in it. Shouldn't take a genius to figure out that quality of work is going to drop SHARPLY. And that's exactly what the execs deserve.
