I'm getting really tired of this place and all the toxicity and politics (and don't even get me started on the nepotism) but I'm not sure what's the best alternative. Looking at other forums on this page, most of the companies in our industry have similar if not the same issues as we do. What does that leave us with?

After being let go by MRO, I ended up at a manufacturing company. My skills were transferable and not industry specific. Compensation is about the same with equity being worth more due to performance of the stock. Retirement contribution is much less. Work environment is data centric and professional. I don’t expect a bonus for 2020 because the bonus metrics are very data driven and the company is unlikely to achieve threshold metrics. We have had some layoffs in 2020 as well, but the company was very respectful because the issue was the economy and not the individual employees. I am happy where I am and I hope everyone will wear masks and bring COVID under control to improve job prospects for others who have been let go. Good luck finding a place that is a better fit for you.
Have you ever considered opening your own franchise?
Being a florist is a good alternative. You can be creative.
Even with all the BS, I make more money in oil and gas than I could anywhere else. I've always figured that I'd ride the gravy train until it stopped or I was kicked off. And yes, other companies have the same problems as us.
Well, as Ivanka says, “try something new”. If you are a young person, unless you are at the very top tier of your discipline, it would make sense to exit the industry. Some disciplines (land, geology) are vastly overpopulated now, and will be for foreseeable future. The good times are past - promotions, bonuses, merit raises, interesting assignments will be scarce in the medium term. The company will hold all the power and wield it accordingly. If you can make the change, you should.
