Thread regarding Alaska Airlines layoffs

Alaska Airlines - The Purge

So the first of many call went out yesterday. Surprised to see the flailing "leadership" begin the cuts with long-term solid members of the Alaska team while they continue to ignore real health threats from Covid-19 Method of conducting the purge is like watching alligators being fed....watching Executives toot platitudes while throwing just enough meat into the employee pit to watch co-workers turn on each other. So sad to see what has become of the current corporate culture. Hard working, long-term mid-to senior level leaders that worked up from the entry level job fired via over-priced corporate "zoo" video ambush meetings by do nothing marketeers and corporate slashers. the company has a large cash cushion, taken federal PPP money and still removes those that follow the rules and regulations. Kinda like the incompetent and spineless "Alan Snyder's" of the IGA on "The Colony." So greasy makes me wonder if they will honor their buyout program. Sorry loyal flyers...it ain't the same Airline

ALK will be one of several airlines in Chap 11 by this fall. Hold on to your horses!

Very tough times for everyone. Hard calls being made by leaders. I am happy to have seen nothing but empathy in my workgroups and a sincere desire to save this airline. Our executives are planning for the long term and are being very smart and selective about the cuts while also being generous with pay extending to October, good severance, and extended flight benefits. You can't really expect the airlines to survive without significant cuts can you?

Brutal. A dear friend was "purged" yesterday after 23 years at ALK. Been with the company thru many previous troubling times and probably selected by new senior managers only striving to maintain their positions and incur bonuses for eliminating those that present "high costs". Destroying the cooperate culture will eventually come at a cost for sure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lf3ILeh0zRk
