Sad state of affairs

I worked on the Bloomingdales side.Totally caught off guard after working extra hours because of staffing issues, backing up My manager and never calling out during my five years.I gave my heart and soul to this job.The company has no direction but down.So many qualified, dedicated, talented associates out.We had 16 checkouts now there are only 4.They took advantage and misrepresented matters. It was highly insulting and so unprofessional how we were told we no longer had a position. The job description has been eliminated only to be renamed

It is a sad state of affairs. I gave up a safe career when I was in between jobs and Macy's offered me a position which paid better. I enjoyed it and worked my butt off, took lunches but no 15min breaks, never called out and stayed longer to finish the job. Others who had been there way longer than me, had bad attitude and questioned why I worked so hard, eventually I would see what they meant, so they thought. My belief is, do your best at whatever you chose to do and hope you get rewarded for your hard work, if not, then at least you know you gave it you all. I had gotten burned before at my previous company but that didn't stop me from doing my best at Macy's. I decided to stay with Macy's and plan to continue doing my best. However, it may be time to start searching if the company continues to self destruct. I hope the virus doesn't cause another shutdown as it will be devastating, then hope things get better. I just want to be positive.

It's really heartbreaking to see so many good people getting laid off from Macy's. I used to like shopping there. Now every time I see that store, I get sad and think of the employees that used to work there. Can't bring myself to go in there anymore.

Thank you for posting.I echo your feelings.
Management always acted with a false sense of entitlement.I have worked for both companies. For no fault of our own we are no longer employed.God only knows how the decision was made to keep others.I have retail in my blood and really enjoyed my position.I will miss many fellow associates and wonderful connections. When I dost things out and stop feeling sorry for myself I will diligently look for another position.Business is business but the way the job separation was conducted Was outrageous.

I also felt totally caught off guard when I was laid off. I was a good employee for many years (good reviews, daily recognition, good attendance, many credit apps, etc.). I still don’t know how they assessed and ranked us.

So sorry, coming from the other side, similar treatment. No lunch, breakfast, or dinner at times just to help our managers. Benefit is a slap in the face. Be encouraged that you and your colleagues will eventually find something better to support you and your family. All the best.
