In my store (before it was announced as closing) they took away the wi-fi. The excuse was they were going to upgrade to a super duper new system. Did this actually happen in the remaining stores? Was this just one of the hundreds of lies from this company.

One of the few things I liked when I was working at Sears was the wifi. It was matter of time if my store stayed opened they would cut the WiFI to save money. The store manager would undercut his employees anyway he could so it was just getting worse and worse every damn day at our store. I am glad it closed years ago!
No need for Wi-Fi in the stores. There are myGopher kiosks that provide an unbeatable commerce experience for members in all Sears and Kmart stores. Plus, there are kiosks that allow orders from Sears.com and Kmart.com for unmatched member services at excellent prices.
to the OP:
no, that's the sure sign your store is going to be closing soon.
SHLD and, later, Transformco used to pay Motorola for the wifi service (not cheap!).
Brush up your resume and start looking around.
There is no one left in IT to upgrade anything, hasn’t been for a couple years now.
Nope. it was all lies. No wi-fi in our Kmart either. Just like our id–t AP manager thinking that we were going to get new registers because of the sale of invoel to Costco. Gee golly josh that didn't happen now did it?!
