Thread regarding Baker Hughes layoffs

Texas Unemployment and severance package

I was laid off last month and my HR representative said I could immediately apply for unemployment benefits. I also had to sign off on a release of claims documents in order to receive the severance package money, which I did and received payment on the 17th of June. My question is I am going to report this payment on my weekly claim and if any one has done this, what to expect from the outcome? I have read if you have signed a claim release form it does not disqualify you from benefits plus the payment was lump sum and not weekly payments. Anyone have any information or recent experience similar to this would be greatly appreciated!

For Texas, they play God with you; you will be disqualified for ALL unemployment benefits and will have to return ALL the money you received from the week you received the lump sum. You will be disqualified for a duration of your lump Doee. if the lump sum is amount to 3mos salary then you will be locked out for 3mos. It's just a waste of tax money to employ these folks at TEC.

Only claim the 2weeks in lieu. Consider the "severance" and pro-rated bonus as lump sum.

Texas unemployment is different than Oklahoma. I am getting mixed messages, some are telling me you have to pay back unemployment benefits if you get the severance? Is this true? Please do not speculate only share what you know. I am collecting unemployment at the moment and yet to receive my 13 weeks severance...

It’s not a broken company... you’re just mad you got laid off. I could be p-ss-d off too, this is just the nature of the beast in the field we are in.... this happens every 4 years. In this field if you don’t save when times are good you are screwed when the times are bad. Hope you saved, it’s feast and famine in this business. You got s—ed in. By the money.... did you think it was gonna last forever. Bide you’re time and enjoy the family of you were smart enough to save, it will come back

It happened to me when I got laidoff back in 2015 from Navigation. I filed for unemployment that same morning got laidoff at 6am close to ending my shift and got home filed few hours later. It does not affect your benefits because it’s a lump sum. So you should be in good shape.

You may not be eligible the week you received the severance package but eligible for ongoing unemployment benefits. That’s the way oklahoma has been doing it .
