Thread regarding Cummins Inc. layoffs

Cummins Filtration Layoffs

There is beginning to be lots of chatter on the filtration side of Cummins that layoffs are looking likely this fall. We here that lines are going to be moved out and a lay-off of up to about 200 employees is coming.

Can anyone provide info about this or tips of things to watch for that is a telltale sign of layoffs approaching?

In everyone's deep mind, they have been just collecting paychecks bi-weekly till receiving generous (yes generous) severance package or immigration India-chin visa approval. Who care? No one.

The 36 hour work week and also exempt having to take a 15% pay cut that is the warning to all of them. Hey we are doing this in lue of a layoff for hourly and/or RIF for exempt. But since it has been going on since the second and now the third quarter they may see that layoff and RIF happen before the end of the third quarter if not weeks after into the fourth quarter.

What gets me the most is that alot of exempt are at home working and thinking they are safe when in reality they have to have been looking at the numbers and saying do we need all these exempt and hourly office staff. If you have 40 HR and 60 hourly HR associates, if your doing work from home I can see them getting rid of 20 to 30 associates and tell the others left that you just have to work harder. Also with them losing 10 HR exempt. And this isn't taking into account the managers and also the engineers. Look they never saw this virus coming and it hurt Cummins also along with other businesses. And remember we are heading into the fall very soon and business tends to get more restricted.

And then add the fact that many of these managers are working like nothing is wrong and even their boss don't know until the day off when their exempt employee is gotten rid of. I see them calling in people from home who they want gone to say that they will now work from the company. This way it will make them bring back the equipment from home to their desk and also their laptops and they don't do anything for a week and then they get rid of them. At the end of the day they are looking to get rid of the ones that are making alot of pay.

Cummins never fires people without warnings. 3 months before last year's Rich Freeland email about impending layoffs, they had started offering voluntary retirement. Anyone who got laid off last year and at the start of this one should not complain about no warning signs. They had been there for 3+ months, plenty of time to look for another job. This year, it is the 36 hour work-week that will serve as a precursor to job cuts. Only an extremely naive person would fail to spot the trends. Big layoffs are on the horizon and Q4 could get pretty intense.

I was told that a RIF was on the way, they also have the staff still taking put hours a week and also the salary taking a salary cut into third quarter that means they are having issues still economically. You have to realize alot of this stuff hits in a few ways instantaneously and also as a wave later once the effects start to seep out of all the rest of the economy that we are relying on.

If you get an invitation to a room where you wouldn't otherwise meet anyone, please try to find out if your card access works for doors near you. Especially if this meeting happens to be scheduled in the morning, before 8 am.

If your access doesn't work, it's a sign that you are going to be laid off.

Cummins has a brutal upper management. But more importantly, they have a highly incompetent upper management. Please do not count on them to protect your jobs.

“I personally know some loyal, honest, hard working people that were let go within the last year. Go to work everyday worrying about losing your job is soul crushing.” How about the last 10 years at least??? No one truly realizes the magnitude of this and how long it had been going on until it happens to you. Many people aren’t aware of this forum. A lot of Cummins best and brightest have been let go over the years because they checked a particular demographic box and a particular salary level. No loyalty from Cummins.

Best "heads-up" that your getting RIF'D is that if you have access to numerous programs/locations on your desktop.....and you notice that access to various applications is suddenly missing or restricted...count on it....your going out the door very soon.

HR is aware that people have become wise to this phenomenon and try to delay turning off your access until the very last moment......trying to keep you in the dark....but, often they fail at this task like many others and you have a good 24-48 hours warning.

You can take this info to the bank. My wife works in HR.

Want a telltale sign of impending layoffs? Does your paycheck have a big 'C' on it? If so, layoffs are always on the horizon. Sorry, mate.

No question that Cummins will be laying off more employees from all divisions to satisfy the Wall Street crowd including Fleetguard....if Cummins can move production to a cheaper place they will.
It was better when Cummins had their Distributors under private ownership....at least there was some loyalty to their workers. If you are still working at Cummins, do yourself a favor and update your resume and start looking for a new job.....believe me it will get a lot worse at Cummins before it gets better.

It looks like Cummins is looking at moving alot of their production outside of the country. I tell you I've always said this, Cummins has alot of Chinese and Indian management, who's to say that they haven't been trying to steer most of Cummins work to their country? I mean if we say made in America it makes just as sense for them to do it for their country. They have a very large tech center in India which if anybody can help me find pics of the inside aka test cells and engineering areas the CTC can't hold a candle too.
