I'm an hourly executive, and returned from furlough about 3 weeks ago, I had a request off scheduled for a few weeks from now since January, after returning from furlough I reminded my boss about my request off and was told that he was told to deny all requests off based on bussiness needs, and that there are other executives in the building that needed time off that have been in the building through the furlough that needed to take there time. I was basically told that he's not sure if he can approve the time, when my vacation is 3 weeks away. He's only doing the schedule for a week or 2 at a time, I noticed that 2 other executives are scheduled the week before I need off, but none the week I need off. I even offered to take unpaid time off its a money issue for the store, but still no solid answer. I have a pre paid, non refundable trip, and at this point asked if even there was a possibility I could take at least half the week. I asked what would happen to my employment if I don't come in that week, as I need off. I was told that was an HR issue, so I put in a case through ask HR, and was basically told that do to the current situation there was no garrantee of time off, and that my people leader should work with me to meet my needs, well the only thing he's saying is that I probably won't have a solid answer till the week before. I understand the store is short staffed, but if 2 other executives can be off the week before , why can't 1 be off the week after? I'm just wondering what my options are here, I'm fairly new to the company (about 6 MONTHS) and I did ask the hr representative what the policy was for calling out, I was told that missing 5 or more consecutive shifts requires a leave of absence, so I'm basically trying to figure out if I do call out (4 days at least, if they can't even manage to give me half the week) could I be fired? This whole situation is ridiculous, and not how a company should treat there employees. I have never called out, and open credits frequently, and provide great customer service. I just need to understand the attendance policy, and I'm not even sure how to report an absence outside of texting or calling my boss. Is there anyone else besides HR I SHOULD reach out to? I'll email Jeff myself if I have too

Given that the company is about to lay off over 4,000 people, I think you sound a little tone deaf about the situation.
The company is in crisis and you are pestering your manager about vacation.
The more you argue for your vacation, the more likely you are to move up on someone’s list of “people we can do without.”
Yes, you can’t get your money back. Yes, you asked about this time off months ago. But things have changed greatly since then.
Pleas sit down and consider the options here.
A) You forego the vacation and show yourself to be a team player, willing to take a hit for the team.
B) You insist on the vacation and annoy someone so much that you end up in this or the next round of lay offs.
Vacation? Job? Which do you want?
Because I think insisting on getting this vacation time off is showing a lack of understanding about the bigger picture here, and could seriously harm your growth/continued presence at your job.
Just sayin’.
Reach out to HR Services and request a personal unpaid leave of absence. Look at the knowledge base in AskHR for the pto and leave policy. Do this today before the reorganization announcement.
In my experience, as a Senior Executive a request to be off is just that,a request... regardless if it was put in early or not. Unless you were already specifically told yes and now you are being told no, I dont think you will have much ground to stand on. I definitely wouldnt reccomend emailing Jeff. Also, in my experience the company usually tries to honor time off if its a once in a life time experience /important event etc.. wedding. Good luck. I hope you get to tale your vacay. These things usually work out.
Thing is sometimes people make plans for trips long before they start a new job
Take your trip and enjoy yourselves. Macy's is circling the toilet and you're all going to be out on your azzes in a few months - whether you k–led yourself like a company man or you went on vaca. Enjoy your vacation. Life is short YOLO
6 months on the job. At this point be glad you have a job.
"Are they right?" ???
What part of "I had a request off scheduled for a few weeks from now since January" and "pre paid, non refundable trip" does the person below me not understand?
Sounds like they are trying to get you to quit.
Still, do I understand this, you've been with the company only 6 months and how much of that has been on furlough? And you say that you need vacation?
Maybe they think you don't want to do actual work. Are they right?
