Get real! The only thing corporations care about is the major share holders. They do not hire n fire for fun. Money makes the decisions. Rules and legislation is for Nancy boys! Corrupt management and leaders will take the followers every time over a thinker, leader. A company who wants sheep over wolves deserves to go down. Old ways old thinking. Rip BHI Aberdeen lol

Well theoretically, if you have a clean record for your years of service, then there’s no reason for the company to not want to re-hire you if, & when, things pick up.
Of course, that’s being simplistic to say the least, & we all know that layoffs are a good time to settle old scores, especially if the individual has a history of speaking their mind, pointing out problems / issues, or telling it as it is.
Such people are seen as being negative trouble makers rather than experienced people who want to see things change for the better, & deep down, we all want to see things get better – Right?
Unless things change rapidly, I hope for the best, but fear for the worst, because BH has never been very good at change for the better rather than change for change sake.
Good luck all – it’s going to be a tough journey.

If they mark the files with “Do not rehire”, I can’t even imagine how ridiculous HR is going to look when that people are going to work for competitors, win contracts, or work for oil operators and then things can get messy, very messy. Is well know that some of the ex-baker employees, work as consultants for O&G operators, they are involved in contracts reviews and tendering process, is very obvious the impact they have when is about to award the contract. I believe, there should be more investigation why a file is marked as “don’t re-hire”, is there because of management incompetence to handle a fair redundancy process ? If this is the case, then BHI has some serious problems to solve.

When I was let go from BH during a previous downturn the procedure totally ignored all legislation! I briefly considered raising an unfair dismissal case but decided against it because I felt it would ruin any hope of getting another sector job with any company out of Aberdeen.

Crazy thing was they actually took me back on a contract a couple of years later because no one had the particular experience I had when they showed me the door. The manager who put me on contract told me "Well, you must have been ok because they didn't mark your HR file as 'Do not rehire.'"

Yes ..there has been a lot of good people shown the door there and everywhere in the company, with some questionable performance by management and HR in the time between notification and end of contract. It just goes to show when it's like this you are a number in the financial budgeting game and little regard for the mental health and financial position of people that have given the company wealth over 10 to 30 years of service as well as those who have been there less time who also deserve at least some compassion. This comes attitude cascades down from the senior management in US ..so next time you see anything saying we are a team...remember how quick they are to save themselves not you.
