When is the Academy going bankrupt and shed stores and employees? It's been lingering in a near-bankruptcy state for a long time. The company keeps trying to bank on eCommerce to save itself but everyone knows there is nothing that Academy carries that Amazon or Walmart doesn't have.
Please let me know your thoughts.
BOPIS was the reason numbers were good last year , well their version of it at least, and Covid hoarding in Q1/2020 allowed for sales to go through the roof. Astros kept them afloat the last few years so it’s been pure luck, not smart business. Fast forward a few months when BOPIS is just flat/negative and Covid hoarding goes away, then the true numbers will start to show. $1.466 billion debt is around the corner with retail taking a nose dive and unemployment at record numbers in their markets. More layoffs and store closures and whatever over head they can get rid of to balance out the negative comps. Just facts and looking at the big picture and long term retail landscape.........ASO will crumble. Like Stage Stores, JC Penny, Franchesca,..........

Due to Q1 2020 results. Will be downgraded once they see Q2 results. Layoffs only help the “balance” sheets for a minute. Add the store closings coming, lack of digital fundamentals, like an App, retail 101 If you ask me and the lack of new stores in the pipeline......oh have you seen the condition of the existing stores? Does not sound like a solid game plan.

Wasn't there a report in 2019 that ASO was on the brink of bankruptcy? Im not sure the "foundation is strong" by any measure.
Anyways ... I thought the end-game was to get bought by D–k's.
Hicks is not the problem. Lawrence is. Every company he has worked at has gone under and he is doing it to us here at ASO. He has ruined this great company. Hope its not to late to save it.
That sounds nice on paper but tell that to all the loyal employees that they let go.
The people posting on here have no idea what they are talking about. ASO has proven that the foundation is strong and that the customers are loyal and growing in numbers throughout the pandemic.

ASO is obsolete as a retailer. Although it is hoping eCommerce to save it, I don't think eCommerce can save ASO. The internal company atmosphere has got to be very painful given the economic conditions in retail as well as the financial situation ASO s in.
Hicks is just not an innovator. His success in retail was pretty cut and dry , retail 101. Research the company's he lead and you will find that they peaked when things were easy, however, a long term sustainable foundation was never put in place. He understands the good old days of retail not the present. His leadership team lacks vision as well, just research their background and you will find the same old mentality for retail and leadership skills. JC Penny , Stage Stores, Francescas.....not game changers! COVID-19 just accelerated the reality of were ASO was headed. ASO is not considered to be a relevant retailer by many brands due to their unwillingness to change and adapt. Hard working people, some have been their forever and love the company , however, this crisis is exposing the lack of its foundation and it will not survive. I hope I am wrong but I think KKR will file for bankruptcy and cash out!
