Thread regarding Bose layoffs

Glad I'm gone

I got let go 2 years ago after 25 years with the company. I was told my position was "no longer needed" even though they wound up hiring two people to do my job. I had great reviews, never had a single incident involving HR and no blemishes on my record. Why was I let go? I think it was due to a couple of reasons, #1 my boss needed to throw someone under the bus to save her own job. #2 I was 59 at the time and like it or not, there is a culture to get rid of older people if they are not in MGMT. However the severance package was great and I landed a job writing software at the same salary and within a year I was promoted to supervisor which I would never have made at Bose. Am I angry at Bose? No, I am angry at the people who drove it into the ground, when Dr. Bose was around it was a great company and weeks after he passed they began the plans to get rid of MFG and that's what k–led innovation. When they actually made their product they could innovate quickly and quality was much better.

I'm so glad it worked out for you. I love no longer working there. I was there for less time than you, but still a long time and the last five years have been really bad. I found work at a far better company (as did my fellow layoff buddies).

One where new ideas are heard, and collaboration encouraged and where you can see a path upward past the incompetent mostly-men who run the show

Good for you.
Bose also has the pension plan. You've stayed long enough to get the pension after retire.
But that's a burden from the company's point of view. The longer your tenure, the more pension Bose has to pay after you retire. So that's another good reason to let old folks go. Not only did Bose outsourced MFG, engineering including software, hardware, even transducer design and manufacturing are outsourced and off-shored. There are tons of meetings, conference calls, failures....
Bose can end up as a shell company, just put the name of a
product designed, manufactured and sold by some other companies.
