I was laid off today just 1 week away from my 3 year anniversary. I lost some of my 401k and 1 weeks severance. All i got tpday was 2 weeks severance. I just have to say working for Halliburton has been one of the worst experiences I've ever had. The managers were awful, culture was bad, incompetent coworkers, and always worrying about your job.

I completely understand this post. I stayed at HAL for a long time - 20+ years. Not because of the company but because of the people I worked with. They were stellar performers who routinely put in 60 hours a week. HAL is an abusive company. But they are insidious in taking away your humanity. The abuse is heaped on little by little through terrible management, bad business decisions, the inability to root out favoritism and when you finally realize just how bad it is, then you start the process of getting out. I have had people over the years ask about working for HAL and I have advised against it. There are/were many great, hard working people there who did their best to advance the company. The poster who mentioned that HAL is in decline was right. The poster who asked what HAL's strength is/was I think was genuine in their question. The answer is the people. Now that so many are gone, HAL has been diluted. The experiment of sending jobs overseas has never been successful, which has been another big contributor to HALs decline.
So, don't criticize the poster for not leaving sooner. When you have a minute to think about how buried in work you are/were, you know that finding the time to find a new job can be difficult. The bottom line is that HAL is no longer a growing company. It's declining. Unless there is a huge change in management from Miller on down and a new direction set, it's not going to survive.
I feel big relief when laid off... The environment is different.. Hall is going downhill..
Agree with you 100% and sooner or later it will run out of business due to the management system.
Used to work for them for a long time and had lost everything . when they had laid me off.
I was relieved when I got laid off. No more stress and no more bringing it home each day.
adios muchacho...............
Trust me Glassdoor removes negative comments. They only keep half way decent comments, at least in my experience. I posted something, no names, no specific department/PSL, but saw it removed.
Please post your comments regarding your employment experience at HAL at glassdoor.com That way you might save someone in the future from making the same mistake and accepting an employment offer from HAL.
Agree. Made some potential life long friends along the way but definitely worked with snakes and piss poor management. Would I go back? Absolutely, but only for a paycheck this time.
HAL ain't the same as it was 30 years ago. People don't won't to do the hard work. They want to sit behind a computer. Where is all the field experience? It is gone. No one has even seen a rig much less worked on one. The end is near.
I currently work for big red. And i can confrim everything this person said. As for the negative comments i can tell you the talented carry the load for the zeros. And management does as little as possible. Good company on paper. Horribly managed.
With that attitude it's a wonder why your supervisor and coworkers weren't chomping at the bit to retain you, you must have been a ray of sunshine every day. Funny enough, the CAPTCHA verification number I got was 86.
What location?
Don't let the door hit you on the way out!
Signed, a slightly less incompetent worker than you
Cut the poor guy some slack, he is vending his frustration as he got booted.
So you lasted close to 3 years... If it was so awful, why did you not leave?
