Thread regarding Raytheon Co. layoffs

6/21/20

Layoffs at the legacy SAS are happening quietly. I was unofficially told to expect notification next week. These layoffs have everything to do with the merger and your pay grade. In my department there are open reqs and I was told that I can not transfer to another role at my current pay grade and salary, but I can apply for an open req at a lower pay grades for a reduction in salary (there are no open reqs at my pay grade in my department and the reqs are at 2 pay grades below me)

I am a G10 (E5).

Bumped from @ibkc+15hI2onw for info.

There are no VLOs being offered at Raytheon.

I think most people know mass layoffs are coming. What's pissing everyone off is how they're dragging it out. Waiting until just before the holidays is a big f-you becaussle that's when other companies slow down and stop their hiring for yhe year (so consider yourself unemployed for a minimum of 3 months guaranteed). Also, piecemealing salary/benefit cuts to merely delay the inevitable only breeds resentment. If your goal were to completely wipe out your employee's morale, Greg Hayes is hitting all the right buttons.

That is the game they play. Layoff 49 people once a month (rotating departments) so no one notices, and doesn't create a mass exodus.
They may make larger ones just before the holidays, as it has shown to make less of a moral impact.

Talent Acquisition people are flaming id–ts if they believe we don't notice. People ALWAYS talk.

Does anybody know if RTX-Marlboro (SAS) is offering VLO packages to legacy employees at this time?

I dont think anyone is safe. With the business unit mergers, there will be duplicate jobs and whoever does not get it will be out, regardless of the labor grade. Also lot of legacy people can/should retire. Since it is illegal to ask, they are simply laid off with severance. However, a younger employee with the same job title is also laid off to avoid age discrimination.

Thanks for the info. Could you tell us the legacy SAS location (El Segundo, Dallas, etc.)? Surprised they're going for G10's. Must be the E6 and Fellows proposing this.
