I took the leave of absence and within two weeks being out, got a package at my house saying my position was eliminated and paperwork to sign to get some piddly severance. They said they were going to hold my position till I returned but that was all talk....as it was never in writing and even if it was, can be overridden by HR or anyone above your mgmt chain.
