Thread regarding Emerson Electric Co. layoffs

Major layoffs at Emerson RAS

After laying off 20 employees in December, RAS laid off another 60 employees this month. This is the worse business unit to be in at Emerson. Pedro D'Ascola is the worse you can get as a business leader. No one in RAS or other business units look up to him. No RAS employees trusts him. He has no vision, no strategy and don't know what to do. The business has gone backwards since he took over in 2016. Shocking that Emerson is still betting on someone like him. This business is going to go down further.

Corporate has furloughed employees, one week for every month. Measurement and D&I have done the same. RAS has not. So be thankful you still have full salary.

saw a slide showing ras north America sales is about 30 million for 3 quarters, lowest in the history of ras. operating profit less than 5 million, lowest in the history of ras. zedi lost money for the first 3 quarters and how much did emerson pay for zedi, 150 million? and pedro still keeps his job and paid top dollars?

You guys should be thankful that you were not fired. RAS only reduced 11% workforce although trade sales is down 40% because of oil price and Covid-19. Other BUs have fired many more employees, some reducing 50%. Be thankful, people.

To all ex RAS employees, good riddance. To all current dissatisfied RAS employees here, if you are still around, resign. We don't need you in RAS. Go elsewhere if you can find another job in this job market, good luck.

Pedro is a product of how Emerson develops its people, just to be good administrators and good PowerPoint producers. Outside Emerson, he would not even be a first line manager. RAS is doomed if no leadership change and Nyquist is unlikely to make any changes. Status quo is the norm.

Left RAS a few years ago, for all of the reasons below. No vision, no leadership, no strategy for growth other than 'let's sell more flow computers'.

Twelve years to develop a flow computer, and another 2 years to develop a new RTU product replacement that pales in comparison to the products it's replacing.
While there, I watched them hire lots of people in business development and marketing, and yet the only thing they did was barely hold on to their existing customer base.

I watched as hard working engineers, tech support and field service guys got more and more disillusioned until they just gave up.

I watched as we lost many key accounts simply because senior management would make commitments to the customer that they never intended to meet, and then they would make the front line workers break the news to the customer that they weren't going to get what they were promised.

The grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence, but generally it is greener outside of the asylum. I am glad I made the change when I did. I hope others can make the jump.

Under Pedro leadership, RAS has gone backwards 5 years. Nothing to show other than utter failures but Emerson execs protect their own, the senior execs but releases the hardworking employees.

pedro is often at a lost on what to do. he murmurs a lot. can't blame him. the emerson system mold him into an administrator, not a leader.

as a former ras employee, i agree fully with all that is said of the ras leadership especially pedro. no vision, clueless. get out if you can. there is no hope in ras. it is the WORST group to be in.

RAS leader (Pedro D'Ascola) is the worse you can get for a leader of a business. He has no vision, no leadership, no CLUE what to do. However, because he has been there for 25+ years, he is the protected class. He is a nice guy, don't get me wrong but that's about it. He should not even be a senior manager, let alone an executive of emerson. I agree that RAS is the worse business unit to be at emerson. Pedro should be fired immediately if RAS is going to be salvaged. That includes Zedi which is in the wrong group under wrong leadership. Zedi will die under Pedro.

I have never worked for a company that treats their employees as bad as RAS. Absolutely no vision, no training or desire to invest in their technical staff. Everyone just does without ever stopping and considering if there is a better way, and paying for even the most basic things you expect a technology company to cover. I guess that’s the mistake, to assume that RAS is in the technology business.

Many brilliant and talented young engineers were let go. People that would have made the company better in the next 5-10 years. Instead they were let go and we kept people that are incompetent. So many people in Watertown that are old, and that have hold back technology, and are responsible for a disastrous new generation of products.

I agree. RAS is definitely the worst business to be working for Emerson right now. I’m personally ready to be laid off in the upcoming months. To those that stay. Good luck working for such a terrible company.

Lots of talk about Emerson’s success in acquisitions, but not seeing any props for Senior VP if Acquisitions and Development Mark Bulanda. Credit where credit’s due.

Its unfortunate that Emerson did not take advantage of the leadership capabilities that came with the acquisitions. Instead, Emerson ensured that these leaders have no place at Emerson as they did not have the long tenure necessary to be promoted. These leaders will also be frustrated with the cumbersome process and lack of strategic direction.

Pretty difficult to make strategic investments when you’re arrogant as $&@b, have never worked outside of Emerson and have no concept as to why that is a disadvantage after 20 years. This is pretty much the entire leadership team, so...good luck everyone!

spending millions to acquire companies that loses money and then firing hardworking producing employees to make up for the losses is unforgivable. paying a premium for a horrible company like zedi, what the hell is pedro and the executive team thinking? less than one year and the company is losing so much money. forget about accretive. the company cannot even turn in a profit.

i agree. zedi is a disaster for ras and for emerson, second only to paradigm. however, as usual, no one is held accountable.

You are right, a huge blunder to acquire Zedi, a 3rd tier scada company. Neither the executives nor the board are doing their job to scrutinize acquisitions. Maybe a class action lawsuit is needed.

Zedi is definitely a wrong acquisition at the wrong time. That speaks volumes on the poor leadership, actually no leadership. No one respect Pedro anyway. Not even his own employees. Sad that Emerson has many of these dead wood as leaders.

You mean Zedi? That's the wrong acquisition. Scada for small heavy oil producers. NO FREAKING WAY Emerson will get back the investment. This company will die eventually, just like most Emerson acquisition.

Pedro spent 150million of Emerson money on a silly acquisition in Canada and that company is losing lots of money. That's the reason they have to cut the employees again. Poor acquisition and poor leadership as usual.
