What are you seeing? Layoffs last week and again today. Hearing only of non-Japanese getting terminated.

Labor laws distinguish how employees are recognized versus contractors.
Treating both as one group is a breach of those laws.
Fair employers should be mindful and act accordingly.
Looks like no leaders after last president left.
Who is in charge now ?
What Canon did to their employees was a disgrace. There was zero communication from the so-called “leaders”. The inequality surrounding the layoffs is nothing shocking since the Japanese are constantly being rotated and promoted ( unlike the non-Japanese). The people defending Canon on this thread are sitting at home pretending to work while collecting benefits. The NY media needs to report on this.
New York’s Newsday reported a measly 60 worker layoff last year.
Mr Dolan should let the truth be told about major layoffs.
COVID-19 families deserve coverage first as they have suffered the most.
But the true character and reputation of the corporation and how it reacted to this
will determine the companies success years from now. Treat the workers fairly and practice what you preach.
All the public relations money down the drain.
Tell us all how anyone knows Japanese employees werent laid off? First person who says it, is lying. Because its not true. Every major company in the US and Europe are laying off and furlough employees. Every compqny has its process for doing so, and every major corporation obeys local and federal laws & guidelines. Yes it s—s, but ita reality: No big conspiracy behind it. Company is bleeding and laying off with reorg since 2017.
Canon USA will not lay off the Japanese because Canon Inc sends them over on a 5 year visa. They constantly rotate while they lay off non-Japanese employees.
Why is none of this being reported in NY? NY Times? Newsday?
Don’t see race mentioned, just that employees reporting that layoffs only impacting non-Japanese. It could be coincidence. ;) right?
Stop turning this into a race issue. You all sound like kool aid drinking id–ts.
Here’s why. Cuomo is in bed and owned by Canon with contributions and having canon execs on his team;

Favoritism is one thing, but ethnicity as profiling in hr decisions is illegal in the USA. If this canon activity is exposed it would be devastating to the brand in USA especially as they take New York State tax credits and apparently fire based on race. Where are the state and local government leaders on this?
The lack of equality between Japanese and American workers during the lay-offs should be no surprise to anyone who has been around long enough...the favoritism based on ethnicity was never really hidden.
Based on my conversations with co-workers in NY, laid off employees were predominantly non- Japanese.
Furlough means no pay, indefinitely ?
Laid off and furloughed thousands. No communication at all.
Confirming 2K is accurate
Canon has laid off or fired over 1000 people in 2020. They also fired married couples and support personnel.
It's more than 60 people overall. More like 2,000 laid-off among all Canon and Subs.
BICG and CSA last week started out with some packages and furlough. Furlough turned in to outright firing.
ITCG taking another hit 60+ people today. Let's see what tomorrow brings
