Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Leave of Absence

I am not in the upper ranks of Staples. I am one of the Associates in a busy PMS store; the only profitable part in all of Staples' retail.

I requested a LOA for 30 days due to Covid 19 implications. I was told that Cigna is managing all leaves of absence which will then be forwarded back to Staples (HR I assume). Cigna wants permission to disclose all my medical records. I have no relationship in any way with Cigna and I feel this is a gross invasion of privacy especially for a 30 day LOA. But without this disclosure, I may not get the LOA.

Has anyone had any experience with this? I do appreciate any feedback and I wish all people on this forum the best of luck with any issues they may be experiencing, Thank you.

Most companies do not do their own Human Resources anymore. I used to work at California EDD and most companies will hire at least one outside contractor for all or some human resources duties. If CIGNA wanted your medical records then in order to get an LOA then you need to give it to them. But if you have concerns then get some information from Cigna as to what they do with the private data you give them. Find out what happens to that personal and private data, whatever concern you have then you should look at their policies regarding your private data and ask a lot of questions, don't just trust them see what problems other people had with it.

Cigna manages leaves as third party to keep your information confidential. It is easier for you. If not you take forms to doctor
