I think OXY reopening at Greenway is a lawsuit waiting to happen. Covid was already confirmed in our mailroom, it’s only a matter of time before more employees get it. For a company that claims to value safety, and who says nothing destroys value like an HES incident, do the right thing and allow us to continue to work from home safely.

Oil and gas companies are not tech companies. With field operations that have to happen in the field. You can’t drill a well from home. Can’t operate a piece of artificial lift from home. Someone has to do those things.
If workers( including oil company workers) stop commuting throughout the world demand for oil will never come back. In this case oil prices will remain low and most white collar types in the oil patch will not have to worry about the WFH option because they won’t have jobs.
I agree that it is surprising that a micromanager can be even more obtuse and hold us more under their thumb during WFH. Somehow we are more at their mercy and less protected by peers and other managers.
I agree with the comment below regarding Amazon & Google. Clearly the world is changing and oil and gas companies need to learn to change with it or they will not survive. As for the troll below who does not believe lawsuits will take place, have you been living under a rock? The only way OXY would be immune from Covid lawsuit(s) is if Congress passes legislation protecting business from such lawsuits. This is highly unlikely to happen as Democrats would not approve such measures. I have a law degree, I highly doubt that you do.

The comment below spoken like a true yes man middle manager. You are a dinosaur and your way of thinking is why companies like oxy will go extinct and companies like Amazon, Microsoft and Google continue to thrive (all of the mentioned have publicly stated WFH is approved through the rest of 2020)
Actually you can micromanage very effectively and not even physically be in the same place. It is all about power and as long as the matrix controls your destiny you will perform your job according to their detailed requirements and methods. Whether you like it or not.
To the comment below, the answer is no. It’s a matter of can work be done from home effectively. The answer for OXY is very clearly yes. Hospitals are not the same business model as OXY, us staying home prevents pointless meetings with yes men middle managers trying to micromanage.
So any place that has had covid needs to stay closed forever? Close all the hospitals!!!!!
Why we need to go back to expensive and crowded greenway plaza when we can perform more efficiently at home ? Too risk and unnecessary and also being too much liability to the company.
I don’t think we will ever get back to working at GW full-time. WFH has proved that and there is no need to bring people back and put them at risk when you can get most of your work done from home.
People should get back to work at Greenway but be very diligent about following social distancing rules.
Perhaps after the workforce is reduced it will be safer.
At some point we have to go back to work, and I think they will bring us back in waves. Hopefully, it will be based on those that are young coming back first, and follow some type of age related re-opening like the government is talking about. Since the government is handing out so much cash I wish they would drop the Medicare age to match the social security minimum age of 62. There would be a lot of us 62 and over that would retire if we had health insurance, and leave it all for the younger crowd. You also have people that have toddlers and young kids that depend on daycare or alternative means of child care that need those places to open. Oxy may just need a list of reasons for those that qualify to work from home, and not penalize those that work from home. They could always dump Greenway and let us all work from home and have some place we could go have meetings with our groups if needed.
