Good article on furloughed workers https://www.cnbc.com/2020/04/04/what-kind-of-severance-you-are-entitled-to-and-how-you-can-get-more.html
Key points:
Essentially, whether you’re entitled to severance or not will depend on how you’ve been laid off.
Those who are temporarily furloughed will not receive any severance.
It’s important to know that in the U.S., severance is not mandatory and many companies do not pay it.
For the companies that do, it’s typical to get one to two weeks of pay for each year of employment.
Unless you were advised of a layoff benefit in advance, you are not entitled to any. good luck
Severance is a nicety, and is not required.
From the last round of Sears closures there was no severance.
So don't bank on it!
I dont know
I was let go after 20 years service. Received 1 week (20) for every year... as promised
Good luck!
If the whole company goes down, where are you expecting to get severance from? You have better luck getting struck by lighting and bitten by a shark at the same time. Just start getting that resume ready and start your job hunt.
I think Sears will likely be liquidated. If you are collecting regular unemployment plus the extra $600 a week, consider that your severance package.
