Thread regarding Sears layoffs

State of affairs at Kmart

What, exactly, are people buying?

I am really baffled as to what exactly people are buying at Kmart these days. Our Pantry section (which was getting regular shipments from C&S Wholesalers before the Coronavirus) has been obliterated and they just aren’t restocking it. Whole aisles where Best Yet soda, chips, water, food were stocked are completely empty. We have no paper products except ~10 boxes of Best Yet tissues. Now our cleaning supply aisles are also wiped out. We don’t even have any dish detergent left! (Laundry detergent is still about 40% full)

Most of the Home section in my store has been gone for months and now last week we just have moved all the clearance Easter into 4 aisles which used to house towels and sheets. (We have almost none of those left). There is still Valentines, St Patty’s and Christmas c-ap everywhere.

HABA is still being replenished with a new brand TopCare—also from C&S, but the shelves are a joke and we just have 1 selection for most categories. Our HABA manager was laid off and it is now managed under Pantry.

Apparel, Toys and Seasonal are about the only categories that come on the truck anymore, along with random Craftsman and small appliance pallets.

Yet there are still lines at the registers most days. Last night I looked at what people were buying—Frozen merchandise and a clearance blanket. Why the heck are we even still open?

I know what you mean. With my stimulus check + regular unemployment + 600 extra per week i am bored and just going to whatever stores are open. Yesterday i bought a case of tartar sauce and i dont even eat fish.

People are bored because most stores are closed. They're buying unnecessary stuff. When I last went to Kmart when they were putting up social distancing tape people were buying stuff like bikes and toys.

Sounds like my Kmart..Empty aisles in Pantry, HBA and Home. Easter is everywhere! People
In m store are buying mostly clothes, jewelry, some toys and sporting goods which is understandable, some Pantry and HBA, but majority is clothing items! Non essential!
