Am hoping American workers dont loose their jobs over foreign workers. Allscripts is notoriously unpatriotic protecting foreign cheap labor and shipping American jobs over to India. Blows my mind how unethical and pathetic that policy is, especially during these times when 25 million Americans are unemployed!

Yes, in the US it is called "Employment at Will". Which means that an employer can terminate an employee for any reason without warning (as long as the reason is not illegal - such as due to the employee's age). The employee is also free to leave at any time. However, most of the time this works in favor of the employer. Also, since there is no legal contract between employer and employee the employee can not bring file a lawsuit against the employer.
Other countries have extensive worker protections so they can't just fire people left and right for no reason, easy-peasy. In the US, even at the federal level, there are little worker protections. Most states have few to none. I'm sure if they could fire them too, they would.
American jobs are being replaced with those in India, I know because mine will be one of them very soon.
In the US, there were definitely non-foreign contractors retained over long-term employees (over 10 years with company) in the same business group. In the particular group I am referencing, the employee terminated had extensive product knowledge and the retained contractor has only been here a few months. We were told in some cases they had to retain the contractors due to the terms of the contract under which the contractor is working.
Now my head is spinning. Obama and the ACA have absolutely no relevancy here. The subsidiary companies were founded far before the Obama administration; the Misys merger was completed before he was even elected. Regardless of political opinions, of course the company had to adapt to the ACA - and to the administration as a whole. If anything, the incentives and mandates in the ACA regarding health information, the HITECH Act, and the various MU revamps during the Obama administration caused the EHR market to grow rapidly. It’s only natural that the company’s mission would aim to align itself with the goals of those mandates, especially since the functions of the products have to be tailored to the goals of policies. Nonetheless, there were regular layoffs even during a period where there should have been an abundance of job security. That’s the result of mismanagement, plain and simple.
Let’s not forget that Allscripts was founded through the ideals of Obama and Obamacare. They even told their employees as much. You can find it in one of the old HR presentations on internal Sharepoint. I saved a copy just for fun along with some other interesting things if anyone is interested.
Allscripts, plus many other corporations are only loyal to their stock holders and short term profits. Employees are merely tools - like a pair of pliers, a screw driver or a wrench need to get the job done. The corporations then obtain the "tools" they require from the cheapest outlet they can find.
Allscripts has entire groups offshore that are considered employees, not contractors. It would be interesting to know if those employees were impacted in any way.
I do agree that foreign workers in US should be fired before any Americans are. There is no special talent in them that Americans don't, in fact I have seen its sub-standard at best.
Our department still have about 8 Indian contractors. I do not think all of them were laid off.
i'm pretty confident all contractors were laid off across departments, location for contractors did not matter. but that is just contractors
Were workers in Pune also laid off?
Corporations across the US have never had a sense of patriotism and their loyalty to workers ended (if it ever existed) about 40 years ago.
LK does seem to have a special kind of love for the off shore workers. Much like Thomas Jefferson had for Sally Hemings.
@bww+14yWP5OT: Any idea how many of the off shore workers are left? You can bet that they'll be rehired once India gives the 'all clear' for COVID-19.
With PB and LK in charge, who is thinking India is the heart of Allscripts, of course the US workers are laid off. PB and LK’s positions are so critical to the company, I just do not understand why the board did not put them in the heart of Allscripts? Instead, they are employed in US, the butt of Allscripts!!!
200+ contractors in the Bangalore office were also let go with this round of layoffs...
