Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

What does a gradual return to work look like?

Personally, I don’t find working from home a big deal at all. The COVID-19 situation is obviously horrible, but working from home itself is fine. I feel better than I have in years actually and from what I’ve seen, there’s more productivity than before. Now that Enbridge is starting to talk about a gradual return, I’m getting worried that they are going to make the office workers go back while the virus is still being transmitted and k–ling people. Does anyone have any insight into what a gradual return to work actually looks like? I don’t understand what the benefit would be of having some office workers go back and others not. We’d just end up doing conference calls, the same was we are now. Unless I’m missing something here? Talking about office workers who are not in the field. Very thankful for our field workers, and also sorry for anyone who isn’t able to do their job from home ❤️

We have to go back sometime. I just hope the decisions are made using logic and safety is the top priority. I fear there are people in higher levels of management who just don’t want to admit working from home works perfectly fine and who will put us at risk needlessly.

I heard that they are trying to figure out what a new office environment will look like. They have to keep us six feet apart and cubicles and shared spaces aren’t set up for that. They are looking at options. Potentially satellite office space for meetings or necessities (like layoffs)? I hope that’s what it is. I agree that we’re way more productive as a company and it seems they’ve invested heavily enough in network capabilities to make this work.

And what would the shareholders think if we were wasting money on unnecessary office space? 🤔

I’m curious about this too. I miss my work friends, but if we go back before there is a vaccine, we’ll be waving at each other from a distance. I would rather work from home and be safe. It’s not worth getting really sick and spreading the virus just to take conference calls from my desk rather than at home. My hope is that they leave the return date at the discretion of the supervisor - if people are getting their work done from home, no need to go back. If people aren’t working well from home, deal with that one person from a performance perspective. I really don’t like how Enbridge tends to implement “one size fits all” policies and I really hope they start some new trends now.

Its such a relief to be away from the brown nosers and id–ts and not see them face to face all the time. I am going to miss WFH. Everytime I see those A$$holes I lose a piece of my sanity. I think the Hamilton middle managers are the biggest gits of them all

My 2 cents with my tin foil hat on. The way Vern spoke in his podcast and with the news of gradual return to work, I am guessing once folks are in the office, the ELT group will issues lay-offs left and right. After lay-offs, Marc will release a statement saying Covid is volatile and everyone work from home now until further notice. Again my tin foil hat opinion.
