Why does Oxy have extra layers of management? Things were simpler at APC.

@1ryq+14uYlXEU People who do work create waves in an environment where no work is the modus operandi.
They make platoons of employees look bad and then it is knives out. Saw this many times.
I always found it interesting that Oxy laid off people who actually did work, and kept the middle management presentation goers. Oxy doesn’t need $200k mangers to put on lunch and learns currently. There’s an ample amount of free (= $0) webinars for that. It felt like being in communist China at Oxy.
Please remove those middle management. Micromanage and check you daily. Treats us as 1st graders. No time to work due to those endless meetings.
The people who need to be let go are the people who have the power to do it.
OMG they’re on to me!
@qbk+14uYlXEU A large chunk should have been fired years, if not decades ago.
The solution is simple, stop keeping and promoting trash. Oxy should be on an episode of 'Hoarders'
Well were are these people supposed to go if they've been loyal to the company? Hold them back and everyone will complain that no one is getting promoted or advancing their career. Can't have it both ways.
Seems like there are 1-2 additional layers from APC.
Agreed. The company is paying top dollar to all these unnecessary layers of management who do nothing but create more red tape and bureaucratic processes for their workers to follow. Rather than cutting 30% of your workers salaries who actually do work and make the company run, top management needs to consider getting rid of the high paid middle managers and directors who are not worth their high pay in this environment.
All other companies switching to one lead, one asset manager and one GM per business unit.
I agree. My boss is a director and he is able to manage multiple people under him without giving them the title of manager, team lead, etc. I know some groups that have directors that have multiple managers report to them that have only 3-4 people. I can only think they want to bring people into management to be able to participate in management activities for succession. A director does not need 3 managers under them to manage a total group of 12 people.
Excellent question. A related question is why does Oxy have so many redundant groups. The answer to both questions is the same.
Where else do you put useless a– kissers who don't do any work?
