Simple question. The reason for the layoffs was lack of money. So where is the money for the new hires coming from???

Why is this company interviewing people to hire????
I just got hired. I was surprised when HR called me. I am now worried what type of company did I join, as I learned of all the layoffs.
This is really infuriating...
